Dong Thap farmers are entering the harvest period of the 2025 winter-spring rice crop. According to records in some localities, although the harvest yield is equivalent, and some places are even in season, the decline in rice prices makes farmers unhappy.

Mr. Le Van Tam - Director of An Thanh Agricultural Cooperative, An Phong Commune, Thanh Binh District, Dong Thap Province - said that the rice selling price (which has been linked) is currently at 6,700 VND/kg, a significant decrease compared to 2025, so all members are disappointed.
"We also know that in this context, rice prices fluctuating is inevitable, even for producers it is difficult. However, now all costs have increased, especially agricultural supplies, so everyone loses prices just because of the right crop" - Mr. Tam said.
In this situation, An Thanh Cooperative is trying to learn many models to reduce production costs such as slow sowing, limiting inorganic fertilizers, ... while still ensuring quality rice.
"We also hope that the state will continue to have support policies, especially in the technology field such as drones so that farmers can feel secure in farming" - Mr. Tam added.

In Long Thang commune, Lai Vung district, the family of Mr. Nguyen Van Lang (Hoa Binh hamlet) is also restless because they are worried that rice prices will continue to fall in the coming season.
"Currently, traders are weighing rice at 5,000 VND/kg, or 100,000 VND/crop, while last year I sold 156,000 VND/crop. The equivalent of a ton of rice costs more than 2 million VND. According to this rice price, my family has lost this year. If the price of the next crop continues to decrease, there will be losses" - Mr. Hau said.
Despite the decrease in prices, Mr. Hau's family still had to continue sowing in the next crop because the old farmer could not leave his land. "How can we leave the land, we have been farming for decades. Now, no one would dare to rent land for rice when the price is going down like this!" - Mr. Hau expressed.

Ms. Phan Thi Cam Linh - civil servant of agricultural and environmental land of Long Thang commune - said that the solution that the locality is striving to implement is to find every way to reduce production costs, improve quality, thereby increasing profits so that farmers can feel secure in farming and keeping their profession.
Mr. Nguyen Van Vu Minh - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dong Thap province - said that the goal in 2025 is to effectively implement the Sustainable Development Project of one million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030.
Currently, the locality is continuing to implement solutions to develop the rice industry into a key export industry and in a sustainable direction through developing high-quality concentrated production areas, food safety and hygiene and focusing on synchronously applying solutions to reduce production costs, actively promoting the shift of seed structure to high-quality variety groups.
