The Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that cross-border e-commerce platform Temu has temporarily stopped providing services in Vietnam.
Temu's move comes as authorities require Temu exchange representatives to complete legal procedures to be licensed to operate in Vietnam.
Previously, at the regular Government press conference in October, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long said that after November, if Temu does not complete registration in Vietnam, its application and domain name will be blocked.
According to a representative of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Ministry of Industry and Trade, after working with the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy, Temu platform stopped operating until completing registration procedures with the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
On the Temu app, the platform announced that it would temporarily stop providing services in Vietnam after working with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and being requested by the Ministry. Currently, it is unclear when Temu will resume operations.
Temu has now completely switched the interface language from Vietnamese to English on both the application and the website. Currently, users in Vietnam only have 3 language options: English, Chinese and French.
The Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy said it will continue to coordinate with the Competition Commission to request cross-border e-commerce platforms to review and implement the responsibilities of intermediary digital platforms towards consumers in Vietnam.
A representative of the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy said that consumers should not panic if they have previously ordered from Temu, because if the delivery deadline has passed and the goods have not been delivered, the Temu platform must be obliged to return the money to the consumer.
