On April 15, Phong Nha Commune People's Committee (Quang Tri province) said that it had just coordinated with local people to promptly control a vegetation fire that occurred in hamlet 9, preventing it from spreading to the surrounding production forest area.
According to initial information, at about 9:30 am on the same day, in the Khe Lung area, village 9, a vegetation fire occurred on the area of acacia forest harvested by a household.
The cause was determined to be people burning and clearing vegetation after exploitation, in hot weather conditions, causing the fire to break out and spread to about 2ha.
Immediately after receiving the news, the Phong Nha commune government mobilized police, military, Youth Union forces and people to deploy firefighting plans. By about 11 am on the same day, the fire was completely extinguished, without causing fire to spread to the forest area of neighboring households.
The incident continues to warn of the risk of forest fires from burning vegetation during hot weather. Local authorities said they will strengthen propaganda, recommend people not to burn vegetation, and at the same time monitor and strictly handle violations to ensure forest safety.
