The number of smuggling cases decreased but the value of infringing goods increased. The Customs sector collected 901.58 billion VND in revenue from handling violations in 11 months.

On the afternoon of December 11, the General Department of Customs informed that in November 2024, the number of smuggling, trade fraud and illegal transportation of goods across the border decreased in number of cases (down 19.01%) but the value of infringing goods increased (up 140.3%) compared to the same period last year.

Notably, the number of violations on sea routes increased sharply, accounting for 55.1% of the total number of detected cases, an increase of 705.26%. Meanwhile, the number of violations on road, air and express delivery routes decreased by 70.02% and 37.7%, respectively.

In November 2024, the entire Customs sector detected and handled 1,666 cases of customs law violations, with an estimated value of violated goods of VND 2,987 billion. In the 11 months, the Customs sector detected and handled 16,390 cases, with a value of violated goods of VND 29,273 billion. The amount of money collected for the budget reached VND 901.58 billion, an increase of 242% over the same period in 2023.

Complicated developments on the border lines

The trade and transportation of firecrackers and white sugar continues in the central provinces and the Vietnam-Laos border. In the Vietnam-China and Vietnam-Cambodia border areas, the trading and transportation of goods without invoices and documents focuses on frozen foods, consumer goods, and cigarettes. The southwestern border has recorded signs of increased illegal transportation of goods, currency, and gold.

The situation of using tax-exempt goods for the wrong purpose and not declaring the conversion to customs authorities to evade taxes is also happening in some industrial parks.

Strengthening the fight against drugs

In November 2024, the Customs sector presided over and coordinated with functional forces to detect and arrest 15 cases/16 subjects related to drugs, seizing 106.9 kg of various drugs. In the 11 months, the Customs agency detected 275 cases/328 subjects, seizing 2.08 tons of drugs.

The above results demonstrate the efforts of the Customs sector in controlling smuggling, trade fraud and illegal transportation activities, contributing to stabilizing national economic security.
