People reflect strong increase in electricity bills in June

Many households reflect that electricity bills in June increased sharply. The electricity industry believes that prolonged heat has caused consumption to increase sharply.

Receiving the electricity bill for June, Ms. Pham Nga (Ngoc Ha ward, Hanoi) was surprised when the amount to be paid increased to 7.9 million VND, 1 million VND higher than in May.

Previously, her family's electricity bill for May was 6.8 million VND. In previous months, electricity bills ranged from about 2-3 million VND; in the low season it was only about 2.5 million VND.

When asked if the level of electricity use in the family's June bill period increased sharply or not, Ms. Nga said there was no significant change.

My family usually uses air conditioning right from the beginning of summer, not just when the heat is intense. When the weather starts to get hot, all rooms use air conditioning almost continuously. Only in cool months, when the weather is cool, grandparents like natural air, so they often open the door instead of using air conditioning, then, the family's electricity bill is only about 2.5 million VND per month.

However, when the weather enters the hot season, grandparents also use air conditioning like other family members. Especially in June, I went out quite a lot, even took my children out to play, so the time at home was less. Therefore, I did not think the amount of electricity consumption of my family in this month would increase so suddenly," Ms. Nga said.

According to Ms. Nga, not only her family but also her mother's house in Vo Cuong ward (Bac Ninh) also recorded a sharp increase in electricity bills, from 5 million VND to 8 million VND, an increase of more than 3 million VND compared to the previous month.

This month, my family has just had two more death anniversaries. However, I think that the amount of electricity used in those days has not been included in the June bill because it takes place close to the meter reading closing time, but will be included in the July bill. However, my mother's electricity bill for June still increased from 5 million VND to 8 million VND, an increase of about 3 million VND compared to the previous month," Ms. Nga said.

On social networks, many people also expressed surprise when electricity bills in June increased sharply compared to previous months.

Reader Mai Anh Tran shared: "My family's electricity bill increased by 500,000 VND, while the usage level is still the same, even less because my child goes to school all the time".

Similarly, reader Mai Phuong said that her family's electricity bill increased from 1.5 million VND in May 2026 to 2.4 million VND in June 2026.

My family has 2 air conditioners, one of which is turned on regularly, the other is only used on the hottest sunny days and is also very limited. During the day, all members go to work, go to school, and some even return to their hometowns to save costs," Mai Phuong shared.

Regarding customer opinions and recommendations about the high increase in electricity bills in June, representatives of Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) said that in May and June, the Northern region continuously recorded prolonged heat waves, causing electricity demand to increase sharply.

System load in many days exceeded 20,000 MW, reaching a peak of 21,142 MW on June 24; electricity consumption also peaked with 447.6 million kWh on June 25.

This unit believes that prolonged hot weather along with summer vacations for students and more home time have increased the demand for using air conditioners, fans and household electrical appliances.

According to EVNNPC, when electricity consumption increases, the amount of electricity to be paid also increases correspondingly. For customers using domestic electricity according to the tiered retail electricity price schedule, the additional electricity output can be calculated at higher price levels.

On that basis, the unit explained the factors that may cause increased electricity consumption such as prolonged hot weather, longer air conditioning and cooling equipment use time, or summer vacations causing increased electricity demand in the family.

In case people still do not agree with the explanation results or request inspection, the request will be transferred to the management electricity company to check the measuring system, meter readings and verify the reality.

Talking to Lao Dong, a representative of EVN Hanoi said that summer electricity bills are usually 20-40% higher than in previous months, mainly due to the habit of continuously using air conditioners, closing rooms but using little equipment cleaning, or operating many high-capacity devices at the same time.

Mr. Vu The Thang - Deputy Head of Business Department of EVN Hanoi affirmed: "Summer is the time when electricity demand increases, especially during lunch and evening hours.

Just a few small changes in electricity usage habits such as installing air conditioners reasonably, cleaning equipment periodically, or limiting the simultaneous use of many high-capacity devices can also help customers significantly reduce monthly electricity bills.

According to Mr. Vu The Thang, using electricity economically and efficiently not only helps reduce living costs for each family but also contributes to reducing pressure on the power system during extremely hot sunny days.

EVN Hanoi will receive all recommendations and feedback related to electricity bills to have the most specific answers to each case.
