Food safety obsession
The situation of pests and temporary markets surrounding residential areas and encroaching on sidewalks and roads has long been a burning issue in the capital. According to records, at many spontaneous markets, goods from meat, fish, vegetables and fruits are sold soricately, without covering, lacking conditions to ensure food hygiene and safety.
This situation not only causes loss of urban beauty, hindering traffic but is also a constant concern of consumers about the origin and quality of products. In the context of dirty food, unknown origin is still a problem, many people express their concern when shopping at these markets.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoan (Yen Hoa ward) shared: "My family has a small child, so I am very concerned about food. I often prioritize buying baby food at supermarkets to ensure the origin, but at temporary markets like this, I am not really very assured".

This concern is even greater for workers in other provinces. Ms. Hoang Thi Nhien, a worker from Lao Cai, said she hardly buys food at the flea markets near the boarding house.
"Hearing that pork was infected and not guaranteed to be of good quality and was sold widely in the market, I did not dare to buy it. The family's food is mainly sent by grandparents in the countryside, both safe and cost-effective," said Ms. Nhien.
Specific roadmap, clear responsibilities
Last September, the Office of the City People's Committee issued Notice No. 575 on the conclusion of Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen on thoroughly handling "livestock" and "temporary" markets, managing unqualified slaughterhouses in the city.
According to the announcement, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen directed that the situation of "pink" markets, "temporary" markets and small-scale slaughterhouses for livestock and poultry, which do not ensure conditions, has existed for a long time and is complicated, negatively affecting food safety, urban aesthetics, the environment and causing unequal competition.

According to the Hanoi People's Committee, there are still localities that have not strictly implemented the instructions as proposed by the Department of Industry and Trade or have not thoroughly handled them, allowing a recurrence. Request units to learn from experience and strictly implement the instructions of the City People's Council and the City People's Committee.
In particular, the City People's Committee assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to develop a detailed plan for handling toad markets and temporary markets (classification, solutions, roadmap); report before October 15, 2025. Coordinate with relevant Departments, branches and units to guide the People's Committees of communes and wards to review, compile statistics, develop clearance plans, propagate and mobilize traders to legal markets. Summary of difficulties and problems.
