According to the investigation of Lao Dong Newspaper, currently, the price of construction sand in Ninh Binh has skyrocketed. According to the survey, the price of construction sand at dealers is being sold to consumers at about 450 thousand VND/m3 of construction sand and concrete sand is 800 thousand VND/m3.
This is a record price in many recent years in Ninh Binh province. Compared to the average sand price a few months ago, it has increased 3 times (about 300,000 - 500,000 VND/m3).
Not only has sand prices skyrocketed, but the current supply is very scarce. Currently, in Ninh Binh province, there are no construction sand mines licensed for exploitation. The main supply is imported from foreign provinces. Many construction sand dealers in Ninh Binh have had to close for more than a month now because they have no goods to sell.
Mr. Luu The Dung (owner of a construction sand agent in Hoa Lu city) said that in the past month, the price of construction sand in Ninh Binh has skyrocketed every day. Currently, the price of sand taken at the beach is more than 800,000 VND/m3 for concrete and construction sand, which is nearly 500,000 VND/m3.
"Sand prices have increased like that, but the supply is still not enough to sell to consumers. Currently, my agency still has a small amount, just enough to retail to consumers. If I wanted to get a large quantity of up to a few hundred cubic meters, I would not have had to" - Mr. Dung said.
Also one of the largest construction sand dealers in Hoa Lu city, Mr. Nguyen Chi Kieu said that for more than a month now, his agency has not imported any more sand.
"From the end of April 2025 until now, my sandbank has had to close because I cannot import goods for sale" - Mr. Kieu shared.
According to Mr. Kieu, the reason is that licensed sand mines in some localities have stopped operating due to expired mining licenses or only slow mining. In addition, the authorities also tighten management and exploitation of sand mines. The transportation of sand by boat is also tightened, and there must be full documents and invoices to be transported.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hanh - Director of Ninh Binh Port Joint Stock Company said that for more than a month now, there have been no sand transport ships from the province outside of Ninh Binh port.
"If before, there were dozens of sand transporting ships arriving at Ninh Binh Port every day to transport to the sandbanks of dealers, then for more than a month now, Ninh Binh Port has not received any sand ships" - Mr. Hanh said.
The skyrocketing and scarcity of sand prices has created great pressure for the construction industry in Ninh Binh, especially at a time when the province is speeding up construction progress, to complete a series of key, large-scale public investment projects in the locality.
