On May 19, Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee coordinated with Ba Ria - Vung Tau University to organize the Workshop "Developing the marine economy and human resources for the marine economy of Ca Mau province in the period 2026 - 2045".
Attending the workshop were Mr. Nguyen Kim Son - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Committee; Mr. Nguyen Ho Hai - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Ca Mau province.
At the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Thien - former Director of the Vietnam Institute of Economics, member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Group - presented a paper "National marine economic policy and directions for marine economic development in the Mekong Delta" which suggested many important orientations for marine economic development in Ca Mau province in the coming time such as: Taking advantage of 3 sides bordering the sea to develop aquaculture, aquaculture, and fishing...
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ba Hoang - Rector of Ba Ria - Vung Tau University - said that developing transport infrastructure, logistics and regional connectivity is the key to opening up new growth potential for the Southwest region and Ca Mau province. Currently, Ca Mau still has limitations in terms of transportation and human resources. If training is not done from now on, there will not be enough human resources for Ca Mau to develop when infrastructure and projects go into operation.
Meanwhile, according to Dr. Dang Kim Son - Chairman of the High-Tech Agriculture Association - focusing on analyzing the requirements for human resource development to serve the seafood industry and the marine economy in the new period.
According to Mr. Pham Van Muoi - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ca Mau province, the locality has many advantages for marine economic development with 3 sides bordering the sea, a coastline of 310km and an exploitation sea area of about 120,000km2.
In recent years, the marine economy has continued to play an important role in the province's growth. In 2025, total seafood output reached more than 1.26 million tons; shrimp farming area of more than 43.5 million hectares, continuing to affirm its position as the largest shrimp production center of the country.
The whole province currently has 89 seafood processing plants with a total capacity of over 500,000 tons/year. In the period 2021 - 2025, seafood export turnover reached over 10.4 billion USD.
Besides seafood, sea tourism and renewable energy are becoming new growth drivers. In the period 2018 - 2025, Ca Mau welcomed about 40.3 million visitors; sea tourism revenue reached about 4,557 billion VND.
The province also attracted 26 wind power projects and 1 gas power project with a total capacity of about 4,650MW.
However, according to Mr. Pham Van Muoi, the development of the province's marine economy still faces many difficulties such as unsynchronized logistics infrastructure, complicated coastal erosion, and the quality of human resources not meeting development requirements.
Mr. Nguyen Kim Son said that Ca Mau's choice of developing variable economy is appropriate, affirming the right and accurate step in the current period.
