Shorten time, reduce costs and emissions
Can Tho Port Joint Stock Company (under Vietnam National Shipping Lines - VIMC) informed about the upcoming operation of the Can Tho - Cai Mep (Ba Ria - Vung Tau) sea route. This is considered a new turning point for logistics and goods export in the Mekong Delta.
This sea route not only helps optimize time and costs, but is also an important foundation for goods from the Mekong Delta to reach the global market.

According to Can Tho Port Joint Stock Company, the Can Tho - Cai Mep transport route will use a 3,000-ton ship, with a frequency of 2 trips/week.
It is noteworthy that with a breakthrough in time, the journey will be shortened from 48 hours to just 15 hours, reducing nearly 70% of the time compared to traditional river transportation methods. This not only helps businesses save operating costs but also increases the speed of goods circulation, promptly meeting the requirements of the supply chain.
Not only stopping at economic efficiency, this sea route also brings great environmental benefits. Can Tho Port Joint Stock Company said that the transportation of Can Tho - Cai Mep sea route will help reduce CO2 emissions by more than 60% compared to road transport, contributing to sustainable development efforts and minimizing the impact on climate change.
Leverage for global connectivity
A big plus of this shipping route is its ability to flexibly meet the needs of transporting both dry and cold goods. This is a key factor, especially important in the context of the growing cold supply chain in the Mekong Delta. Stable and efficient sea transportation will provide maximum support for agricultural and aquatic products, which are the strength of the region.
More specifically, Cai Mep Port is one of the major international gateways, with a system of direct shipping routes to Europe, North America and the Middle East. The direct connection from Can Tho Port to Cai Mep will open up great potential for the development of transcontinental transport routes, creating opportunities for direct connection with major markets in the world.
This is an important foundation for gradually forming a direct sea-based logistics corridor for the Southwest region in the near future.
This strategic sea route is the result of cooperation between member units of Vietnam National Shipping Lines (VIMC) and DP World Group - one of the world's leading port and logistics operators.
Vision for Cai Cui port development
It is known that Can Tho Port Joint Stock Company (VIMC) is working with Tan Cang Irrigation Transport Joint Stock Company (Saigon New Port Corporation - SNP) to exploit Cai Cui port, located on the Hau River, in Cai Rang district, Can Tho city.

Cai Cui Port plays an important role in the circulation of goods such as fertilizers, steel, imported wood, motorbikes and equipment for large projects in the Mekong Delta.
However, over the years, general operations at Cai Cui port have not been fully effective, mainly due to the low depth of the water channel from the sea to Hau River, making it difficult to receive heavy-duty ships.
On April 21, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested Saigon New Port Corporation, Vietnam National Shipping Lines, and the People's Committee of Can Tho City to study the best plan to develop Cai Cui Port in the coming time.
