Bustling promotions, increased purchasing power
In early October, the shopping atmosphere in the large supermarket systems in Ho Chi Minh City was bustling. Promotional shelves are constantly being added, buyers can freely choose discounted items.
Ms. Ngoc Ha (residing in An Nhon ward) said: "I see that a series of essential products such as cooking oil, laundry detergent, and instant noodles all have promotional programs such as buying 1 get 1 free, discount from 20-40%... With such a good price, my family often buys in reserve for long-term use."
Meanwhile, Ms. Le Thi Bich Ngoc (residing in Binh Thanh Ward) shared: Before, I mainly bought online, but recently the supermarket has had many direct incentives, so I returned to buy on-site. Having the opportunity to choose products directly and take advantage of discount programs, I feel much happier.
According to representatives of some supermarkets, although many essential consumer goods suppliers have proposed increasing selling prices, the adjustment will not be large. Retail systems have proactively reworked with suppliers and flexibly adjusted promotional programs to maintain stable prices, supporting consumers in the last period of the year.
Some traditional markets also responded to the centralized promotion month launched by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. At Phu Lam market, stalls at the market simultaneously applied a price stabilization program, directly reducing by 5-10%, contributing to stimulating consumption and expanding business activities.
Purchasing power increased by 15% in the first 9 months of the year
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Statistics Office, commercial and service activities in the city continue to maintain a fairly good increase. In September, many outstanding events took place on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, along with the opening season of the new school year, contributing to boosting purchasing power in the market.
Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in September 2025 is estimated at VND 167,455 billion, up 2.8% over the previous month and up 15% over the same period. It is estimated that in the third quarter of 2025, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue is estimated at VND 490,838 billion, up 4.7% over the previous quarter and up 14.7% over the same period.
