Total import-export value increases sharply
In April 2025, the total import-export value of Vietnam's goods reached 74.31 billion USD, down 1.4% (down 1.06 billion USD) compared to the previous month. Of which, the export value reached 37.44 billion USD, down 2.8%, equivalent to a decrease of 1.06 billion USD; the import value reached 36.87 billion USD, unchanged from the previous month. The trade balance of goods had a surplus of 0.57 billion USD, down 64.7% compared to the surplus of 1.64 billion USD in March 2025.
In the first 4 months of 2025, the total value of import and export of goods reached 276.89 billion USD, up 15.7% (up 37.51 billion USD) over the same period in 2024. Of which, export value reached 140.34 billion USD, up 13% (up 16.12 billion USD); The import value reached US $ 136.55 billion, up 18.6% (up 21.39 billion USD). Trade balance surplus US $ 3.8 billion, down 58.2% compared to the surplus of 9.05 billion USD in the same period last year.
Budget revenue from import and export increased by more than 12%
Regarding state budget revenue (NSNN), in April 2025, revenue from import-export activities reached VND39,732 billion, down 0.6% compared to the previous month. Accumulated in the first 4 months of the year, the revenue reached VND 142,122 billion, equal to 34.58% of the assigned estimate, up 12.1% over the same period in 2024.
Anti-smuggling and trade fraud activities continue to be promoted. In April 2025, the entire Customs sector detected, arrested and handled 1,330 violations, the value of violating goods is estimated at VND 1,867 billion, and the state budget is paid VND 65.86 billion. The number of cases decreased by 73 cases (down 5.2%) compared to the same period last year; the number of cases transferred to other agencies for prosecution decreased from 15 cases to 12 cases (down 20%); no new cases were prosecuted.
Accumulated in the first 4 months of the year (December 15, 2024 - April 14, 2025), the Customs sector detected, arrested and handled 5,206 violations, with the value of violated goods being about VND 10,331 billion, and collected approximately VND 347.16 billion in state budget contributions. The number of prosecuted cases is 0, the number of cases transferred for prosecution is 34.
According to the Customs Department, smuggling and trade fraud violations are complicated, especially on the sea (accounting for 52.8% of the total cases). Goods are concentrated through important ports such as Dinh Vu, Nam Hai Dinh Vu, Tan Vu, VIP Green, Cat Lai, ICD Phuoc Long, Hiep Phuoc, Vict, Cai Mep...
The main acts were to declare incorrect goods, types, qualities, values, codes, and origins. In addition, illegal transportation of drugs, currency, and gold across the border has increased on air routes, with increasingly sophisticated tricks, taking advantage of e-commerce, express delivery, and goods deposits. On the road, the situation of buying, selling and transporting firecrackers and white sugar continues in the Vietnam - Laos border area; while at the Vietnam - China, Vietnam - Cambodia border, the transportation of goods without invoices or documents (especially frozen food, consumer goods, cigarettes, cigarettes) is still complicated.
Seized more than 1.7 tons of drugs in 4 months
In April 2025 (March 16 - April 15, 2025), the Customs sector presided over and coordinated with the Police and Border Guard to detect and arrest 16 cases with 27 subjects. The seized exhibits included 1,517 kg of various drugs: 32.8 kg of marijuana, 3.7 kg of heroin, 1.86 kg of cocaine, 1,407 kg of ketamine, 72.4 kg of synthetic drugs (MTTH) and 1,599MTTH tablets.
In the first 4 months of 2025 (December 16, 2024 - 15.4.2025), the whole industry discovered and arrested 64 cases with 74 subjects. The exhibits include 1,719 kg of drugs of all kinds: 401.7 grams of opium, 66.8 kg of marijuana, 14.8 kg heroin, 1.8 kg of cocaine, 1,420 kg of ketamine, 214 kg of MTTH, 1,599 tablets of tablets, 2,005 kg of other drugs and 60,000 other tablets.
