On April 13, a leader of Vung Ang 2 Thermal Power Co., Ltd. (VAPCO) said that up to this point, Vung Ang Thermal Power Plant project has reached 98.8%construction volume, now the task is now only a test operation.
Accordingly, the plan of the unit No. 1 in operation in June 2025 is still guaranteed, expected to start operating at the end of June.
"Recently, there was an incident of transformer of the unit No. 2.
Vung Ang Thermal Power Plant includes 2 units with a capacity of 1,320MW, investing in the form of BOT.

Earlier, the project construction process, Vung Ang 2 Thermal Power Co., Ltd. asked to submerge into the sea of dredging material of Vung Ang Thermal Power Plant Project. The sinking volume in the sea is expected to be from more than 2.2 million m3 to more than 2.5 million m3 depending on the actual construction conditions.
In early January 2024, the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province issued a written response to VAPCO's petition with the unanimously agreed to submerge the dredging substance.
The province requires the implementation of the relevant contents in accordance with the content approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, adjusting the environmental impact assessment report in Decision No. 132 of January 15, 2020 and agreed to adjust the construction and level construction plan in Document No. 3923 dated July 15, 2021.
However, at the beginning of August, 2024, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment agreed to let Vapco submerge the dredging substance at the proposal of this company.
At the end of 2024, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment signed a decision to grant licenses for Vung Ang Thermal Power Co., Ltd., address in Ky Loi commune, Ky Anh town, Ha Tinh province, to carry out environmental protection activities phase 1 of BOT Vung Ang Thermal Power Plant project.
The total area of the project is 207.61ha (including: the land area on the shore of 100.18ha; the area of the sea area of 107.43ha). The area of phase 1 of the project is 164.75 ha. In particular, the land use area on the shore is about 57.32 ha and the use area is about 107.43ha.
The project has environmental criteria equivalent to Group I investment project in accordance with the Law on Environmental Protection, Decree No. 08/2022/ND-CP.
