Plan to import goods early
Pham Van Tan, who runs a department store in O Mon District (Can Tho City), said that at this time, consumer purchasing power is gradually increasing and the peak will be during the Lunar New Year. Currently, along with increasing the amount of imported goods, Mr. Tan has started to consult the prices of some items to serve the Tet holiday.
According to Mr. Tan, the store will prioritize importing essential goods and gifts and cakes because they account for a large amount of consumer demand.
“Referring to some places, the prices of cakes and pastries this year are not expected to be too different from 2023. But to avoid price fluctuations when demand increases sharply, my store is contacting to place orders early. When the goods arrive, we will also receive them first,” said Mr. Tan.
Estimating that rice consumption will increase sharply in the last months of the year, especially during Tet, Ms. Le Thi Ngoc (Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City) has started contacting warehouse owners to import goods. Ms. Ngoc said that the retail price of rice is currently stable, with some types increasing slightly by 300 - 500 VND/kg.
“Due to the weather, rice prices have fluctuated somewhat. I have contacted the warehouse owner to consult the prices of rice varieties such as Nang Thom, Huong Lai, Lai Cambodia, ST24, ST25 to calculate the quantity and import early to serve the year-end market. These are all types of rice that are in high demand during Tet with prices ranging from 20,000 - 40,000 VND/kg,” Ms. Ngoc shared.
