According to the Hanoi City Statistics Office, January this year coincides with the Lunar New Year, so people's consumption demand increases in the days leading up to Tet.
Total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in January 2025 in Hanoi is estimated at VND 84.9 trillion, up 8.6% over the previous month and up 26.4% over the same period last year.
Of which, retail sales of goods reached VND55 trillion, up 10.6% and 27.4%; hotel and restaurant revenue reached VND11.6 trillion, up 4.9% and 36.1%; tourism revenue reached VND2.3 trillion, up 3.5% and 14.8%; other service revenue reached VND16 trillion, up 5.7% and 18.9%.
Export turnover of goods in the first month of the year is estimated at 1,756 million USD, up 1.5% over the previous month and up 15.3% over the same period in 2024.
According to the statistics agency, the total number of tourists to Hanoi served by accommodation establishments in January was estimated at 688 thousand arrivals, up 1.5% over the previous month and up 37.1% over the same period last year.
Of which, international visitors are estimated at 500 thousand, up 1.4% and 39.7%, respectively. Domestic visitors are estimated at 188 thousand, up 1.7% over the previous month and up 30.6% over the same period last year.
January is the time of Lunar New Year so the demand for transportation increases. During this time, ensuring traffic order and safety is of special concern to Hanoi City.
The city is ready with plans to best serve people's travel and freight needs during Tet. Total revenue from transportation, warehousing, transportation support services and postal delivery in January is estimated at VND21.1 trillion, up 23.9% over the same period in 2024.
Along with preparing goods to serve people during Tet, Hanoi City has directed relevant units to pay attention to not breaking the supply chain, causing goods shortages, causing prices to rise; ensuring abundant and diverse goods sources, stable prices to serve people's consumption needs during Tet.
The consumer price index (CPI) in January 2025 in Hanoi increased by 0.51% compared to the previous month and increased by 3.09% compared to the same period in 2024. According to the Hanoi Statistics Office, compared to December 2024, 10/11 CPI groups increased, the highest being the culture, entertainment and tourism group, up 0.74% (influencing an increase in the overall CPI of 0.04%).
Next, the transportation group increased by 0.73% (increasing the overall CPI by 0.07%) due to the average monthly gasoline price increasing by 1.85%; diesel price increasing by 4.99%.
