Bustling Tet shopping
Ms. Le Thanh Tam, living in Thu Duc City, spent more than 2 million VND to buy food for her family during Tet. She said: “This year, brands have launched many products with beautiful packaging and reasonable prices, which makes me very satisfied. Many supermarkets also have promotional programs, with 20-30% discounts, which is very suitable for year-end spending.”
Supermarkets such as Co.opmart, GO!, Lotte... have many Tet products such as candy, soft drinks, gifts, processed foods, banh chung, banh tet on sale. Promotional programs such as buy 1 get 1 free, and free gifts have attracted people to shop in large numbers.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Duc - General Director of Saigon Co.op - said that since the beginning of January, the growth rate of Tet shopping at systems such as Co.opmart, Co.opXtra, Co.opFood has increased by double digits compared to before. This result is partly due to the promotional programs implemented.
“Saigon Co.op’s system is always committed to providing the most complete service, ensuring that goods do not increase in price before, during and after Tet. Many food items are being offered at special discounts, some up to 50% off. We hope that people coming to the supermarket will have access to quality goods at the best prices,” said Mr. Duc.
According to Ms. Pham Thi Thu Hong - General Director of Safoco, the output of egg noodles and rice paper during Tet is expected to reach 1,650 tons, an increase of 10-15% compared to the previous month. During the peak of Tet, the company closely follows supermarkets to promptly replenish goods on supermarket shelves, ensuring adequate and diverse goods. "Although raw material prices have increased by 15-30% since the beginning of 2024, we have decided not to increase selling prices but to increase promotions to stimulate demand" - Ms. Hong shared.
Vietnamese goods dominate
This year's Lunar New Year, retail systems in Ho Chi Minh City also increased their inventory by 10-20% compared to last year; in which the proportion of Vietnamese goods is increasing. Mr. Nguyen Duc Toan - Commercial Director of MM Mega Market system - said that purchasing power is gradually increasing, the proportion of Vietnamese goods accounts for 97%. "This year's consumption trend is that customers are looking for products that are good for their health. This is one of the product groups with a growth rate of about 20-25%" - Mr. Nguyen Duc Toan said.
According to Mr. Nguyen Nguyen Phuong - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, in recent times, manufacturing and trading enterprises have made great efforts to overcome difficulties caused by the world economic situation. "An issue that businesses need to pay special attention to is food safety, especially for food and foodstuff businesses. In addition to building a methodical and closed production process, businesses also need to pay attention to the source of raw materials from suppliers, ensuring quality and safety" - Mr. Nguyen Nguyen Phuong said.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee had a survey and worked with supermarkets, businesses, and unit markets on the production, supply, and distribution of essential food and foodstuffs for the Lunar New Year 2025. City leaders assessed that the supply of goods is quite abundant, prices are relatively stable, and deep promotional programs will help people celebrate Tet fully. Ho Chi Minh City has a widespread distribution system, which is a strong point for people to conveniently shop for Tet.
