The 2026 Lunar New Year market is expected to be bustling as people from the provinces return to the city to gather and participate in recreational activities after the urban space is expanded.
In that context, consumer demand has increased sharply while many traditional supply areas such as the Central Highlands, Mekong Delta and the Central region are affected by natural disasters and floods, requiring Ho Chi Minh City to proactively prepare adequate supply of goods, ensuring both quantity and quality.
From the distributor's side, Ms. Dinh Thi Cam Linh - Deputy Director of Saigon Co.op Quality Management Department said that during the Lunar New Year 2026, the amount of goods supplied to the market is expected to increase by about 20% compared to last year. Faced with the shortage of supply from Lam Dong due to natural disasters, the retail system has proactively searched for and connected with suppliers in many other provinces and cities to ensure a source of goods to serve the people.
From the perspective of state management, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Minh Thanh emphasized that ensuring food safety is a big challenge for a city of more than 14 million people. With a large amount of goods, coming from many localities and many different sources, the city will focus on inspecting high-risk stages, strengthening coordination between departments and branches to ensure the quality of goods on the market, helping people and tourists feel secure in shopping and consuming during Tet.

Regarding the ability to meet supply, Mr. Vo Thanh Giau - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City said that Ho Chi Minh City currently meets about 60% of the demand for agricultural products and food, the remaining 40% is supplied from other provinces and cities. Some sources of goods from the Central region may be affected by floods, but businesses and farms in the area have proactively reserved and regulated the source of goods.
For pork, cattle and poultry in particular, the basic supply is stable, in which output from on-site farms accounts for about 60%; livestock facilities have plans to increase flocks and make up for local fluctuations.
The city has prepared solutions to ensure the supply of agricultural, forestry and fishery products for service before, during and after the 2026 Binh Ngo Lunar New Year. If unusual situations such as natural disasters and epidemics do not occur, the source of goods serving people and tourists during the Lunar New Year is basically guaranteed safety and stability" - said the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City.
Regarding prices, according to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance, from December 8, 2025, the chicken eggs of enterprises participating in the market stabilization program for the period 2025-2026 have increased by VND 1,200-3,000/tael, equivalent to VND 200-300/eggs depending on the type.
