The latest storm and low pressure information from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that rain may affect affect affecting conceded and many other areas of the Philippines during Christmas next week, and this situation may last until New Year's Day.
Mr. Al Quiblat - Head of Weather Services Department of PAGASA Office for the Visayas region - said that Philippine weather forecasters are monitoring a low pressure area. The new low pressure is forecast to enter the Philippine Forecast Area (PAR) between December 15 and 28.
However, according to Mr. Quiblat, the possibility of this low pressure strengthening into a storm and tropical depression is low. We expect a low pressure area to enter the PAR after December 19, he said.
We are looking ahead to a rainy Christmas season, with intermittent rains that could last through New Years Day, he added.
PAGASA also forecasts that there may be 1 to 2 more typhoons affecting the Philippines before the end of 2025.
Meanwhile, the weather in Cebu is forecast to be quite stable until December 19, with the possibility of thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening at low to moderate levels.
According to current forecasts and in the next 24 hours, the easterly winds are dominating the Visayas region. When the winter winds are active, they can bring both bad and favorable weather conditions," Quiblat added.
It is forecasted that this weekend, the sky may be cloudy, due to the influence of the low pressure trough related to the low pressure area currently being monitored outside the PAR.
We should not be subjective. Storms like Tino (international name Kalmaegi) and other storms also started from a low probability before strengthening," Qiblat noted.
Previously, PAGASA officially announced that La Nina has begun affecting the Philippines and this phenomenon is expected to last until the end of the first quarter of 2026.
La Nina is often associated with above-average rainfall in much of the Philippines in the last quarter of the year and the first months of the following year, PAGASAs La Nina warning issued on December 4 emphasized.
