Ho Chi Minh City wishes to cooperate with the World Economic Forum

Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai said that cooperation with the World Economic Forum (WEF) will help the locality achieve its major goals.

On the morning of October 6, leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and Professor Klaus Schwab - Founder and Chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF) attended a talk show with Vietnamese youth, with the theme: "Knowledge Economy - Foundation for a prosperous future and actions of young people". The event took place in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Phan Van Mai - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said: "Ho Chi Minh City is restructuring and transforming its economy, on the basis of promoting science and technology, innovation, and knowledge economy. Therefore, we determined that the topic of this morning's dialogue is very practical, not only for intellectuals, businessmen, and students, but also very useful for Ho Chi Minh City."

According to Mr. Mai, the dialogue between Mr. Klaus Schwab and young talents, start-ups, and outstanding students will suggest the city the right directions and solutions. In addition, those participating in this dialogue will also directly contribute to the economy of Ho Chi Minh City.

At the dialogue, Mr. Mai reaffirmed his desire to promote cooperation between Vietnam in general, Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the WEF. Through the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR), Ho Chi Minh City wishes to learn and apply achievements in social sciences, aiming to build Ho Chi Minh City into a global, learning city, an innovation center of Southeast Asia and the continent.

Professor Klaus Schwab highly appreciated the dynamic development of Ho Chi Minh City, and was honored to be a part of the development of Ho Chi Minh City. The C4IR Center is an opportunity for WEF and Ho Chi Minh City to strengthen cooperation, especially in supporting human resource development and green transformation. On this occasion, Mr. Schwab expressed his wish that Ho Chi Minh City leaders would attend the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos in 2025.

Associate Professor Dr. Vo Thi Ngoc Thuy - Principal of Hoa Sen University - the unit coordinating with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to organize the talk show said: "Professor Klaus's sharing will help young businesses, startups, and young intellectuals approach the vision of an influential global economic expert on the knowledge economy.

The young generation of Ho Chi Minh City understands better the role of human resources and technology in economic development. At the same time, it is an opportunity for young intellectuals in the city to grasp global opportunities, connect with the world and vice versa in the development trend of the knowledge economy.

Also on the morning of October 6, Mr. Klaus Schwab visited and worked with the C4IR Center. Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai once again affirmed that the mission of C4IR in Ho Chi Minh City is to promote the industrial transformation of Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular, towards a modern, creative and green economy, actively promoting technological innovation, digital transformation, automation, etc.

At the same time, the Centre will strengthen cooperation and connection with the C4IR network in the world to support the proposal of solutions and policy recommendations, research on priority breakthrough areas of the city and the Southeast region in line with national orientation and international trends; mobilize resources, capital, support the Government and businesses to apply new technologies in line with the trends of the 4th Industrial Revolution.
