On the afternoon of March 4, information from Vung Ang II Thermal Power Co., Ltd. (VAPCO) said that the unit had just successfully test-operated Unit No. 2 of Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant in Vung Ang Economic Zone (Vung Ang ward).
The trial operation of Unit 2 is an important milestone for the investor (VAPCO) to complete the final procedures, aiming for the target of commercial electricity generation for the entire plant in April 2026.
Vung Ang II Thermal Power Plant was started construction at the end of 2021, with a total investment of about 2.2 billion USD including 2 units with a total designed capacity of 1,330MW (capacity of each unit 665MW).
Previously, on July 22, 2025, Unit No. 1 was officially put into commercial operation.
At the end of 2025, newspaper No. 10 caused heavy damage to Vung Ang 2 Thermal Power Plant when the coal storage warehouse collapsed, causing the production operation of this Plant to be interrupted for a long time.
