Vietnam Airlines said the airline has recorded a data security incident related to an online customer service platform provided by a global technology corporation.
According to information from the partner, Vietnam Airlines is one of many businesses in the world using the service of this unit that is affected. Part of the customer data processed on this system may have been illegally accessed.
Immediately after receiving the warning, Vietnam Airlines promptly coordinated with authorities, cybersecurity experts and technology partners to investigate the incident, assess the scope of impact and strengthen data protection measures.
Up to now, Vietnam Airlines has confirmed that sensitive data such as credit cards, payment information, passwords, itineraries, passports and Lotusmiles account balances of customers are still securely secured. The airline's internal information technology systems are not affected.
Relevant customers will be notified by Vietnam Airlines and instructed on necessary support measures via email.
The airline recommends that customers be vigilant against fake forms, e-mails or suspicious calls impersonating Vietnam Airlines and not share personal information or OTP codes, and not log in to unverified systems.
Previously, on some blogger forums, information was spreading that a group of hackers had publicized the data of millions of Vietnam Airlines customers.
The blogger group claimed to have taken over the data, along with information from many other large companies in the world such as Qantas and GAP Inc.
According to shared information, this Data contains the oldest data from November 23, 2020 and the latest from June 20. The customer information revealed includes: full name, date of birth, phone number, email address, and home address.
