In the first 6 months of the year, Vietnam Airlines operated nearly 78,000 flights, transporting 12.6 million passengers and 165,000 tons of cargo.

On July 30, 2025, Vietnam Airlines Corporation ( stock code: HVN) continued to maintain a positive growth momentum in the second quarter of 2025, despite the context of fuel costs remaining high and exchange rates fluctuating complicatedly. With a strategy of expanding the international flight network, investing in synchronous infrastructure and a consistent development orientation, Vietnam Airlines is gradually realizing its goal of becoming a 5-star international airline in the period of 2025 - 2030.

Expanding international flight network, affirming pioneering position

In the first 6 months of the year, Vietnam Airlines operated nearly 78,000 flights, transporting 12.6 million passengers and 165,000 tons of cargo, up 11%, 13% and 16% over the same period, respectively. The index of ready-to-use fleet reached nearly 100%.

The strategy of expanding the international flight network is a key step in concretizing Resolution No. 59-NQ/TW on international integration in the new situation. As of July 1, 2025, Vietnam Airlines has operated 69 routes to 37 destinations in 21 countries and territories, continuously increasing its presence in key areas.

The airline has restored and reopened many routes connecting Vietnam with dynamic economic and tourism centers such as Hanoi - Moscow (Russia), Hanoi - Milan (Italy), Ho Chi Minh City - Beijing (China), Da Nang - Osaka (Japan), Nha Trang - Busan (Korea), Phu Quoc - Seoul (Korea) ...

The effectiveness of the international flight network expansion strategy is clearly demonstrated when international transport revenue in the first 6 months of the year accounted for 60% of total transport revenue, an increase of more than 10% over the same period.

Revenue and profit increase sharply, financial capacity is strengthened

In the second quarter of 2025, Vietnam Airlines' consolidated revenue reached VND 28,361 billion, profit after tax reached VND 2,923 billion. The parent company alone reached nearly VND23,205 billion in revenue and profit after tax reached VND2,764 billion.

The above strong growth is achieved thanks to the restoration and exploitation of many international routes, optimization of flight crew and resource efficiency, cost reduction... The total profit in sales and service provision of the parent company reached VND 3,934.7 billion, equivalent to 17.3% of revenue. Total revenue and other income in the second quarter of 2025 of the parent company increased by more than VND 3,961 billion over the same period in 2024, of which revenue from international shipping services increased by 15.8%.

The plan to increase charter capital by VND 22,000 billion has been approved by competent authorities, creating a solid foundation for a long-term investment strategy. Of which, VND 9,000 billion is being implemented in the third quarter of 2025 through issuing shares to existing shareholders.

Breakthrough with strategic investment and comprehensive transformation

2025 is a pivotal year for Vietnam Airlines to take strategic steps, towards a new development stage. The airline is stepping up the implementation of major investment projects, including a project to invest in 50 new generation narrow-body aircraft, with a total investment of more than VND 92,000 billion, expected to be implemented in the period of 20302035. The project aims to improve exploitation efficiency, save fuel and reduce carbon emissions.

At Long Thanh airport, Vietnam Airlines has started many key projects such as: a ground equipment maintenance project, providing repair and maintenance services for vehicles and aviation equipment with the capacity to serve at least 12.5 million passengers and 600,000 tons of cargo per year; an airline meal project with a designed capacity of 40,000 meals/day; and an aircraft maintenance project over an area of over 45,000 m2. These projects will form a synchronous service ecosystem, ready to serve Long Thanh airport when put into operation.

Digital transformation will continue to be a strategic pillar in the coming period. Vietnam Airlines is coordinating with VNPT to deploy an Internet connection service on the plane (IFC - InFlight Connectivity) in early August 2025, helping passengers connect continuously throughout the journey. At the same time, the Company promotes system modernization, service automation, and integrated electronic identification throughout the process, in line with the orientation of building a modern, efficient and sustainable digital ecosystem according to Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo.

In the field of sustainable development, Vietnam Airlines pioneers the implementation of flights using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Typically, the first international flight using SAF from Singapore to Hanoi, and 4 domestic flights using SAF on June 5, World Environment Day. All flights are combined with fuel optimization solutions, demonstrating Vietnam Airlines' clear commitment to the Net Zero 2050 target and comprehensive ESG strategy.

The airline is also promoting the development of specialized freight transport products, leasing freight aircraft ( freighter), taking advantage of logistics potential and transit airport advantages. This will be a business segment that is invested in systematically to improve the efficiency of fleet exploitation and diversify revenue sources.

Notably, Vietnam Airlines is ranked 86/500 in the Fortune Southeast Asia 500 list in 2025.
