Vietnam Airlines won the award with the project "Contributing leaves to patch the forest - For a Green Vietnam and Sustainable Development".

The Human Act Prize is an annual award organized by Nhan Dan Newspaper to honor individuals and organizations that have made positive contributions to society through prestigious community initiatives and projects that bring timely, long-term and sustainable results.

With the theme “Community Creation”, the Human Act Prize 2024 aims to promote the spread and connection of community activities, not only honoring outstanding initiatives but also encouraging the replication of effective models. At the same time, the theme emphasizes the role of cooperation between large enterprises, organizations, and small volunteer groups in creating positive and sustainable changes.

Surpassing many nominations, Vietnam Airlines has excellently won the "Sustainable Development Idea" award with the project "Contributing leaves to patch the forest - For a Green Vietnam and Sustainable Development". This is a project closely coordinated between three units Vietnam Airlines, MoMo and PanNature. In 2023, Vietnam Airlines was honored to receive the Human Act Prize in the category of Sustainable Project Connecting Love with Golden Lotus.

In 2024, the project “Contribute leaves to patch the forest - For a Green Vietnam and Sustainable Development” will leverage Vietnam Airlines’ existing customer base, MoMo’s optimal financial and technological platform, and PanNature’s experience in implementing forest conservation and restoration projects. Vietnam Airlines and MoMo will jointly contribute 5,000 VND in revenue - equivalent to 1 “Leaf” - from each Vietnam Airlines ticket purchase transaction worth over 2 million VND, contributing to the Project to implement the forest restoration program in 2024.

The project "For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam" aims to restore forests in the corridor connecting Hoa Binh and Son La - where there is serious degradation due to human impact. Officially launched on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024, after more than 6 months of implementation, the project has planted more than 60,000 trees of 18 native species, restoring more than 80 hectares of forest in the two areas above, contributing to improving the habitat for many wildlife species.

Not only does the project benefit the environment, it also brings great benefits to the local community. Forest product collection and ecotourism activities have created sustainable livelihoods for hundreds of households. In particular, more than 600 people have directly participated in afforestation, thereby better understanding the important role of natural resource protection for their lives and livelihoods.

The project "For a green and sustainable Vietnam" also aims to restore 500 hectares of forest in Hoa Binh and Son La before 2032. In which, businesses and customers will be the financial contributors, PanNature will be the technical unit, implementation and supervision; local authorities and communities will be the units planting, caring for and protecting the forest.

This initiative has also been included in the event library of the SkyTeam global airline alliance, thereby affirming Vietnam Airlines' pioneering position not only in leading national-scale initiatives but also in having the ability to have a strong impact on the international scale, creating a deep impression of social responsibility and commitment to practical solutions for the future.

For many years, Vietnam Airlines has been making continuous efforts to join hands with the community to participate in programs to protect the environment. Previously, in 2022, Vietnam Airlines signed a commitment agreement with the Youth Union of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to jointly implement the project "Planting special-use forests to protect the ecological environment in Bach Ma National Park, Thua Thien Hue Province".

This is a project to respond to the Government's Project to Plant 1 Billion Trees and to implement the target of planting 30 million new trees according to the Resolution of the 11th National Youth Union Congress and the program "Million Trees - For a Green Vietnam".

In 2023, Vietnam Airlines coordinated to organize the launching ceremony of the "For a Green Vietnam" forest planting campaign in Hoa Binh province. In this program, Vietnam Airlines planted 10,000 trees. In Ha Tinh alone, more than 3,000 green lim trees in Ngan Pho Protective Forest were also planted by Vietnam Airlines.

In addition to greening forests, Vietnam Airlines has implemented many measures to reduce net emissions such as becoming the first airline in Vietnam to test the use of sustainable fuel SAF on some flights, optimizing fuel use for each flight, upgrading the fleet to use engines that reduce emissions, reduce noise, reduce plastic products on board and promote the circular economy... This is a joint effort to reduce net emissions to "0" by 2050 of Vietnam Airlines.

Receiving the “Sustainable Idea” award is a recognition of Vietnam Airlines’ efforts in creating sustainable values not only in the aviation sector but also for the community and the environment. In the future, the airline is committed to continuing to invest in innovative initiatives, implementing sustainable development solutions and expanding cooperation with partners to contribute to a green Vietnam.
