On July 3, Ms. Vo Thi Xuan Lieu - Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Son Ha commune (Quang Ngai province) confirmed that a local citizen was swept away by water while trying to cross the Thach Nham spillway on Provincial Road 623B.
Specifically, at around 16:30 on the morning of July 3, Ms. Ly Thi Hoai Chung (born in 1985), residing in Can Son village, Son Ha commune, was driving a motorbike from Son Ha commune towards Son Nham (old). At this time, the authorities have put up warning signs at both ends of Thach Nham bridge due to rising river water levels.
However, Ms. Chung still drove a motorbike through. When reaching the middle of the bridge, the river water level suddenly rose, overflowing the bridge surface by about 10 cm, causing Ms. Chung to lose control, fall onto the bridge and be swept away by the water and go missing.
Upon receiving the news, the local government directed functional units to mobilize forces and means to deploy a plan to search for missing people and salvage the remaining vehicles on the bridge wall. At the same time, the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Search and Rescue Police of Quang Ngai province also organized a search in the downstream area.
Previously, on the evening of July 2, there was heavy rain in the commune, the river water level rose, so the authorities were on duty at both ends of Thach Nham bridge and placed warning signs prohibiting people and vehicles from traveling through this area.
Currently, the search for missing people is still being actively implemented.
