According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lao Cai province, due to the impact of heavy rain lasting from June 24 to July 4, causing great damage to the irrigation works system, directly affecting hundreds of hectares of agricultural land.
In Lam Thuong, Luc Yen, Tan Linh, Khanh Hoa, Phuc Loi and Muong Lai communes, Lao Cai province (formerly communes of Luc Yen district, Yen Bai province), nearly 70 works were damaged, with hundreds of canals and ditches collapsed and washed away, unable to operate, greatly affecting people's production.

In early July, reporters recorded at the Tu Hieu Inter- Lake Irrigation Project, Muong Lai Commune, Lao Cai Province (formerly Muong Lai Commune, Luc Yen Province, Yen Bai Province), due to heavy rain in recent days, the main canal system has up to 45 overpasses and water canals that have collapsed and washed away, causing the project to completely lose its operational capacity.
It is known that this project provides irrigation water for nearly 250 hectares of rice fields and many aquaculture areas of Muong Lai commune.
Talking to Lao Dong, Ms. Tran Thi Phong (Village 2, Muong Lai Commune, Lao Cai Province) shared that after the heavy rain, in my village, there were many areas where irrigation canals were damaged. Households now have a hard time because they do not have water to return to their fields to plant.

Meanwhile, the Lang At lake irrigation project, Luc Yen commune, Lao Cai province (Minh Xuan commune, Luc Yen district, Yen Bai province before the merger), has a canal system of more than 12km long, the entire route currently has more than 30 points with landslides on the positive slope, burying the ditches.
Along with that, many negative slopes have caused the canal system to become unsafe and unable to provide water for about 40 hectares of agricultural land.
The Khuoi Dang irrigation project unit was also buried with soil and rocks, the 33m long steel pipeline was swept away by water, 3 concrete pillars of the mangrove bridge collapsed, the project completely lost the ability to irrigate 5.6 hectares of rice.

Regarding this issue, Ms. Bui Thi Thanh Ha - Head of the Technical Department, Tan Phu One Member Co., Ltd. (the unit assigned to manage, exploit and protect irrigation works in the area) said that immediately after the natural disaster occurred, the unit increased human resources, equipment and machinery to dig up the landslide on the positive slope, dredge canals, dam units, rebuild canals and water pipes. The total estimated cost for repairs and remedies is more than 3 billion VND.
"The unit will try to overcome the consequences as quickly as possible so that people can get water for the 2025 crop," Ms. Ha affirmed.
