Da Nang - The stray rabid dog bit 5 people in a row, including 3 young children, causing concerns about the risk of rabies outbreak in the locality.

On July 31, the Tien Phuoc Regional Medical Center, Da Nang City confirmed that a stray dog with unknown owner, showing unusual signs such as splashing water, continuously opening its mouth, suddenly rushed in and bit 5 people in a row, including 3 children. The incident occurred on July 27, in Hoi Lam village, Son Cam Ha commune (Da Nang city).

The victims include V.M.K. (born in 2020), Ms. D.T.T. (born in 1991), Ms. D.T.S. (born 1966), H.V.T. (born in 2016) and P.D.L. (born in 2011). Notably, after attacking people, the dog continued to bite another dog and was bitten to death on the spot by the dog itself.

Immediately after the incident, all 5 victims were taken to Tien Phuoc Regional Medical Center for wound treatment and rabies vaccination. The first 4 cases were vaccinated on July 28, while P.D.L was vaccinated on July 30.

The Medical Center has coordinated with specialized units to collect dog samples and send them to the Central Veterinary Diagnosis and Testing Center II. Test results confirmed that the dog was positive for rabies virus.

Local authorities have also quickly taken measures to prevent and control epidemics, destroy rabid dogs and raise public awareness in managing and vaccinating livestock.
