Applying technology, improving product quality
In order to concretize the goal of modern agricultural development, Vinh Long province focuses on investing in infrastructure, digital transformation in flower and ornamental plant production - a traditional occupation long-standing with the people of the river region.
Mr. Lam Van Tan - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province - said that promoting the strengths of the traditional profession of growing flowers and ornamental plants, in recent years, the province has focused on investing in infrastructure, applying science and technology and digital transformation to develop this profession in a modern and sustainable way.
Since 2017, the locality has piloted the project to build "Cho Lach Cultural Tourism Village", connecting 4 hamlets including Dong Kinh, Lan Dong, An Hoa and Vinh Nam, to create a unique tourist destination.
The model belongs to the "OCOP" program, aiming to connect production, tourism and promotion of agricultural products, while creating added value for local farmers and businesses.
This is one of the village models of the Mekong Delta, chosen by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (old) to pilot, contributing to the replication of new approaches in building ecotourism rural areas.

At the same time, Vinh Long province is implementing the National Seed and Ornamental Flower Development Project of Cho Lach with a total cost of nearly 85 billion VND, towards a concentrated area of 300500 hectares.
The project combines production with the value chain, improving productivity, quality and climate change adaptation, helping the local seedling and ornamental flower industry develop more stably and effectively.
"The province focuses on applying high technology, improving the quality of seedlings, flowers, and ornamental plants to meet market demand. At the same time, build an e-commerce platform to expand consumption, towards export," Mr. Tan added.
Infrastructure investment, expanding development direction
Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Quynh Thien - Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee - said that the province is stepping up investment in technical infrastructure and salinity control systems - keeping sweeteners, serving the development of the flower industry, ornamental plants and specialty fruit trees.
Recently, an essential infrastructure project to support the development of fruit and ornamental plants in Mo Cay Bac and Cho Lach areas was inaugurated, with a total investment of 150 billion VND, helping to control salinity, regulate water for more than 5,200 hectares and protect famous specialized areas.
Mr. Nguyen Quynh Thien emphasized that the project area is located in the center of the province's production of seedlings, ornamental flowers and specialty fruit trees. Putting the project into operation contributes to completing traffic connectivity, reducing transportation costs, and promoting the rural economy.

The project also opens up the direction of developing garden ecotourism, while ensuring security - defense and improving the ability to respond to climate change.
Synchronous infrastructure combined with the application of technology and digital transformation helps Vinh Long affirm its position as a national center for seedlings, flowers, and ornamental plants.
"With this direction, the province will enhance the value of agricultural products, develop modern, green, sustainable agriculture and create a foundation for tourism and comprehensive economic development in the river region," Mr. Thien added.
