At the press conference, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that agricultural, forestry and fishery production continues to maintain stable growth momentum, ensuring supply and demand balance, meeting domestic consumption and export demand. In the field of cultivation, the whole country has cultivated 2.98 million hectares of Winter-Spring rice, an increase of 0.3% compared to the same period last year; harvested output reached 13.96 million tons. The Summer-Autumn crop has cultivated 1.29 million hectares, an increase of 3%.
Notably, thanks to promoting trade promotion, effectively taking advantage of free trade agreements (FTAs) and expanding export markets, the export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products continued to grow strongly.
In the first 5 months of 2026, the whole industry's exports reached 30.69 billion USD, up 9.2%; imports reached 22.28 billion USD, up 12.6%; trade surplus reached 8.41 billion USD, up 1.1%. Of which, agricultural exports reached 16.38 billion USD, forestry products reached 7.65 billion USD and seafood reached 4.65 billion USD. In particular, exports of livestock products increased by 43.2%, while input production increased "skyrocketing" by 83%.
Key export markets continue to maintain positive growth. In which, China accounts for 20.5% of Vietnam's agricultural, forestry and fishery export market share and increased sharply by 28.4%. The EU market increased by 4.2%; Japan increased by 3.5%. The US market alone recorded a decrease of 3.6%.
According to the assessment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, this is still a positive result in the context of the global economy still facing many fluctuations, increased input costs and prolonged geopolitical tensions.
Speaking at the press conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Dang Ngoc Diep said that despite facing a lot of pressure from the international market, the agricultural sector still maintained positive growth momentum.
Exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products in the first half of the year are estimated at nearly 30 billion USD, with a trade surplus of over 7.5 billion USD. This is a positive signal for the industry to strive to complete the growth target of 3.7% and aim for 4% in 2026" - the Deputy Minister emphasized.
According to the ministry's leaders, right from the beginning of the year, the ministry has developed detailed growth scenarios for each month, each quarter and clearly assigned responsibilities to each unit, sector and leadership in charge.
In addition to the task of developing production, the ministry is also focusing on perfecting institutions with three major draft laws including the Law on Environmental Protection, the Law on Marine and Island Resources and Environment, and the Land Law.
According to Deputy Minister Dang Ngoc Diep, the amendment of laws aims to remove bottlenecks in mechanisms, overcome the situation of overlapping laws, and at the same time promote decentralization and delegation of power, creating favorable conditions for people and businesses.
At the press conference, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment also informed about the series of events in response to World Environment Day, World Oceans Day, Action Month for the Environment and Vietnam Sea and Islands Week 2026.
At the same time, the Ministry officially launched the emulation movement "All people join hands to protect the environment, for a green - clean - beautiful Vietnam", calling for the participation of the whole society in environmental protection and sustainable development.
