Value record
Data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment shows that agricultural, forestry and fishery export turnover in 2025 is estimated at 70.09 billion USD - the highest level ever, an increase of about 12% compared to the previous year. The trade balance of the entire industry continues to maintain a trade surplus of more than 20 billion USD, showing that agriculture is still a "support" in the context of a volatile world economy. In which, the export value of agricultural products reached 37.25 billion USD, an increase of 13.7%.
There are 2 record export agricultural products worth over 8 billion USD: coffee and vegetables and fruits. In 2025, exports reached 1.5 million tons and 8.57 billion USD, an increase of 13.1% in volume and 52.5% in value compared to the previous year. Total export value of vegetables and fruits for the whole year 2025 reached 8.56 billion USD, an increase of 19.8% compared to the previous year.
Cashews, pepper, cassava and cassava products also increased sharply in export value.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Quang Hieu - Deputy Director of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) - said that to achieve this result, besides the drastic direction from Party and State leaders, there is also the efforts of businesses, associations, and producers in reorganizing production to open up the market and comply with regulations.
When businesses have captured market share in markets, have brands, and have prestige, we can completely believe in even better development, as well as further increase in the coming time" - Mr. Nguyen Quang Hieu said.
However, it must be recognized that markets are becoming increasingly demanding with strict technical standards.
Maintain and expand the market to go the long way
In 2026, difficulties and challenges are forecast to continue to increase. To set a target of 73-74 billion USD for agricultural, forestry and fishery exports, of which about 40 billion USD for agricultural exports, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has set out many solutions, focusing on a group of solutions according to the "raw material - standards - processing - logistics - market" chain.
In which, focus on standardizing raw material areas according to "market orders", expanding planting/pond area codes, managing input quality, food safety, traceability, and organizing production according to standards to reduce warning and return risks. At the same time, improve market access capacity and national brands, promote market opening, handle barriers, and build industry brands.
In 2026, Vietnam still has many potential export products, such as citrus trees, to markets such as: China, Australia, Japan. If we do not continuously improve quality and comply with international regulations, just one change in regulations from the import market will also affect production, output and competitiveness" - Mr. Nguyen Quang Hieu emphasized.
On the Association's side, Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Vegetable and Fruit Association proposed that the industry needs to promote deep processing. In 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also advocates promoting green transformation to enter the high-price segment. Carbon footprint measurement/reduction, sustainable certification, promoting the circular economy model and low-emission production will be a passport to high-end markets and retail chains.
