Face ruined because of unsafe beauty treatments
The Aesthetic Center - Central Hospital 108 received and treated a female patient N.T.H (25 years old, Hanoi) with a deformed and perforated nose due to a nose lift thread lift after 3 months of performing at a beauty facility near her home.
The patient suffered from severe infection and necrosis in her nose. The threads were exposed, causing infection. According to the patient, she was introduced to a spa by a friend without carefully researching the facility. After 3 months of thread lifting, her nose began to swell, become red, pus-filled, and perforated. Not stopping there, the bridge of her nose also began to show threads.
Dr. Ngo Gia Tien - Aesthetic Center - 108 Central Military Hospital - said that the patient's nose was severely infected. The doctor treated the abscess and removed about 15 threads from the nose. However, due to the long time of tensioning the threads (3 months), the threads were soaked in a contaminated environment for a long time, causing them to burst and pus to flow out. When treating infections, it is difficult to avoid leaving unsightly scars. However, the doctor still has to ensure that the foreign object is completely removed from the nose and prevent further infection.
The Emergency Department of the 108 Military Central Hospital also admitted a 44-year-old female patient to the emergency room in a state of extreme fatigue, chest pain, and difficulty breathing. The condition appeared after the patient was injected with an anesthetic (Lidocaine) to inject filler into her nose at an "underground" cosmetic facility.
During treatment, the patient developed severe multi-organ damage (respiratory, myocardial, liver, coagulation disorder), requiring a combination of vasopressors with increasing doses, with a high risk of death. After 3 days of treatment, the patient's condition improved, the endotracheal tube was removed, and the patient was switched to oxygen therapy; the dose of vasopressors was gradually reduced and the vasopressors were completely discontinued after 5 days. The patient was completely conscious, the damaged organs recovered and was discharged after 7 days of treatment.
Doctor Nguyen Tien Son - Emergency Department, 108 Central Military Hospital - said: "In the above case, the patient was fortunate to receive proper, timely and active emergency care, avoiding unfortunate consequences."
Risks from disreputable beauty salons
In the last months of the year, many beauty establishments have increased promotions with attractive invitations such as "50% off", "super cheap beauty combo", or "painless beauty". Many people, because of their desire for cheap prices, ignore the step of finding out the reliability of the establishment, leading to the risk of being injected with poor quality materials, using unsafe equipment, or unsafe procedures.
Beautifying for Tet is often associated with services such as filler injections, botox, microneedling, hair transplants or eyebrow shaping. However, if abused or choosing services that are not suitable for your health condition, the consequences can include complications and infections.
Many people have high hopes for changing their appearance before Tet. However, the results are often not as expected, making it easy to feel depressed or lose confidence.
Dr. Nguyen Tien Son added that as life improves, people's need for beauty also increases. To meet that need, many spas and beauty salons have been established. There are still many "underground" establishments, where practitioners are not properly trained, or even have no medical expertise, but still blatantly perform invasive procedures on customers.
Therefore, complications are at high risk of occurring. Medical facilities have recently recorded many cases of cosmetic complications due to the consequences of these "underground" spas, mostly due to the psychology of wanting cheap prices, believing in "sweet" enticements on the internet and then "losing money and getting sick". Among patients admitted to the hospital with complications after cosmetic procedures, complications due to filler injections account for a relatively large number.
