In just a few days, the election of National Assembly (NA) deputies of the 16th term and People's Council (PC) deputies of all levels for the 2026 - 2031 term will take place. This is an opportunity for voters across the country to directly select deserving deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils of all levels for the 2026 - 2031 term. From the Central to local levels, the entire political system is highly focused on ensuring that the election takes place democratically, in accordance with the law, safely, economically and truly becomes a festival for the whole people.
This election takes place in the context of the country rejoicing after the success of the 14th National Party Congress of the Party; operating the two-level local government model after arranging administrative units.
Politburo Member, National Assembly Chairman, Chairman of the National Election Council Tran Thanh Man affirmed that the preparation work to date is basically on schedule, in accordance with the law, synchronous, and tight. The National Election Council has issued 27/27 documents and materials as required; and issued 14 more resolutions, guiding documents and 34 documents to promptly answer and remove obstacles for localities.
Agencies from central to local levels have worked throughout the holidays to ensure the progress of work, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Fronts at all levels have well organized three rounds of consultations, built a tight candidate list, followed the correct procedures, and announced the candidate list in accordance with regulations.
Regarding personnel work, the official list of 864 candidates for the 16th National Assembly was announced earlier than the prescribed deadline, ensuring the structure, composition and surplus according to regulations.
In localities, provincial and commune-level election committees are established on time as prescribed by law. Voter lists have been publicly posted at 72,195 polling stations nationwide. List review work is carried out in many rounds, with comparison with the population database to minimize errors.
At each polling station, the preparation of ballot boxes, polling rooms, security assurance plans, fire prevention and fighting, contingency plans when situations arise... have all been specifically built. It can be said that the preparation has not only stopped at general direction but has gone into each residential area, each residential group, each village and hamlet.
According to Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary General of the National Assembly, Chairman of the National Assembly Office, Chief of Office of the National Election Council Le Quang Manh, up to this point, it can be affirmed that the basic conditions for the election day have been prepared relatively fully and methodically. However, from now until March 15, 2026 is a key period, requiring continued careful review, not subjectivity, ensuring that each voter's vote is taken in favorable, safe and lawful conditions.
Many new points on organization and operation
In particular, according to Chief of Office of the National Election Council Le Quang Manh, this year's election has many notable new points in terms of both organization and the operating context of the political system.
Firstly, this is the first time our country has organized elections in the context of operating the two-level local government model after arranging administrative units. Secondly, digital transformation has become a continuous operating method. Connecting and comparing voter lists with the national population database and applying platforms such as VNeID helps improve accuracy, limit duplication or information errors.
In addition, voters can easily look up candidate information via VNeID and on election day, the system will update voters' voting progress periodically every 2 hours, which is both transparent and reduces pressure on grassroots officials.
Third, the time to organize the steps of the election process is significantly shortened (from the time of completion of application submission to the election date reduced from 70 days to 42 days). This streamlining forces the entire system to operate extremely scientifically and smoothly, without allowing delays or overlaps to occur.
Fourth, the policy of increasing the number of full-time National Assembly deputies, expected to be 145 deputies at the Central level and 55 deputies at the local level. This reflects the direction of continuing to improve the quality of National Assembly activities.
In addition to system innovation, deep concern for the rights of each citizen is also reflected in the fact that the National Election Council allows 218 polling stations to hold early elections.
In special areas such as Doc May village, Hoi Ray village (Quang Tri) - where it is necessary to walk through the forest or take motorboats for many hours, or at oil and gas drilling rigs, DK1 rigs and forces on duty at sea, early voting took place safely and solemnly. At noon on March 1st, 2026, 100% of voters on DK1/9 rig belonging to Naval Region 2 excellently completed the voting, proving that all citizens, whether in remote islands or deep forests, are absolutely guaranteed the right to master their constitution.
Sending faith in a streamlined, effective, and efficient State apparatus
From now until March 15, 2026 is a decisive "sprint" period. To ensure the success of the country's important political event, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man has reminded localities to absolutely not be subjective or negligent.
With careful preparation, synchronous involvement of all levels and sectors and positive response from the entire people, the election of National Assembly deputies of the 16th term and People's Council deputies at all levels for the 2026 - 2031 term is meeting important conditions for successful success.
Each vote of voters on March 15, 2026 is not only to exercise citizens' rights and obligations but also to send trust in a streamlined, effective, and efficient State apparatus.
Sharing more about the expectations in this election, Chief of Office of the National Election Council Le Quang Manh emphasized that the election will continue to strongly consolidate the people's trust in the Party and the State. That trust does not come from slogans, but from the way of organizing specific work, publicly announcing voter lists, creating conditions for voters to contact and dialogue with candidates, and promptly handle petitions and reflections. When people clearly feel that their right to mastery is respected and guaranteed, that is the most profound value of a democratic election.
