On January 14, the Kien Giang Provincial Civil Servants' Union together with the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs' grassroots union organized the handover of the Union Shelter house to union member Danh Tan Tai in Minh Thuan commune, U Minh Thuong district.
The house is worth 150 million VND, of which the Kien Giang Trade Union Shelter Fund supports 50 million VND, the remaining amount is contributed by union members' families.
Member Danh Tan Tai of the Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Department of Kien Giang is a Khmer ethnic person with extremely difficult circumstances. His father passed away at the end of 2023 due to a serious illness, his mother is no longer able to work, his younger brother is disabled and is a recipient of social security benefits, and his younger sister is a worker in Binh Duong province with an unstable income.
Member Danh Tan Tai said: Previously, his family was supported with a Great Solidarity house donated by the State to a poor Khmer household in 2010. For nearly 15 years, the house has been degraded and severely damaged, but the family cannot afford to repair or rebuild it.
“I sincerely thank the Trade Union at all levels for helping me build a house for my family. Now that I have less worries about housing, I will work harder, strive to complete my tasks well and take care of my family,” Mr. Tai confided.
At the house handover ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hung - Chairman of the Kien Giang Provincial Civil Servants' Union - congratulated union member Danh Tan Tai for having a spacious and durable house. The Chairman of the Kien Giang Provincial Civil Servants' Union hopes that union members will strive, overcome difficulties, complete well the tasks assigned by the agency, actively participate in union movements, and contribute to enhancing the role of the union organization in social life.
In 2024, the Kien Giang Provincial Federation of Labor mobilized union members and businesses to contribute over 7.2 billion VND to the Trade Union Shelter program, building 69 new houses and repairing 18 houses for union members in difficult circumstances with a total amount of nearly 4 billion VND.
