The Vietnamese team has a great advantage before the second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2026 final after defeating Thailand 2-0 at Rajamangala Stadium. Hai Long and Quang Hai both scored in the 2nd half, helping coach Kim Sang-sik's team create a significant gap before the rematch at My Dinh on August 26.
In the first half, when the Vietnamese team was under pressure from the home team, the defense maintained concentration and did not concede a goal. Mr. Kim Sang-sik's personnel adjustments after the break were effective when Hai Long and Quang Hai scored in just 7 minutes.
In the second leg, the Vietnamese team will be champion if they win, draw or only lose by a 1-goal difference against the opponent. If Thailand wins by a 2-goal difference (2-0, 3-1, 4-2, 5-3...), the two teams will enter extra time. In case the away team wins by 3 goals or more in 90 minutes, the championship will change owners.
Meanwhile, Thailand was forced to choose a more risky approach at My Dinh. The two-goal gap forced coach Anthony Hudson's team to actively attack to find a goal. Moving up also meant they could reveal gaps behind the defense.
This is the third consecutive time Vietnam and Thailand have met in the ASEAN Cup final. After a 0-2 defeat at home, Thailand faces a difficult task if they want to reverse the situation and win the championship.
The second leg final of ASEAN Cup 2026 between Vietnam vs Thailand takes place at 8:00 PM on August 26th at My Dinh Stadium.
