The 14th National Party Congress is a political event of particular importance to the country, marking a new stage of development with many intertwined opportunities and challenges. In that context, people from all walks of life, including Khmer ethnic minorities in the Southwest region, expressed their belief and expectation in strategic, practical and sustainable development policies and decisions.

As a cadre and Party member of ethnic minorities living and working in Co Do commune (Can Tho City), Mr. Thach Sang (57 years old) expressed many expectations for the 14th National Party Congress.
According to Mr. Sang, this Congress needs to continue to select, introduce and elect cadres who are virtuous, talented, truly dedicated, close to the people, and understand the people to lead the country in the new development stage.
Mr. Thach Sang said that in the coming time, it is necessary to promote propaganda to help ethnic minorities better understand the guidelines and policies of the Party and the State, especially policies suitable to the actual conditions at the grassroots level, helping people feel secure in working, producing and developing the economy. Propaganda needs to be close to the people, easy to understand, and easy to implement so that policies truly go into life.

He proposed that the Party and State continue to pay more attention to essential social security issues for ethnic minorities, especially housing, tuition support, health insurance for disadvantaged households, and at the same time invest in building and upgrading bridges, roads, and schools in rural areas, areas with many difficulties, creating favorable conditions for socio-economic development.
In particular, he expressed his desire to have more agricultural and aquatic product consumption linkage models, helping people have stable output, improve income, thereby contributing to improving life and consolidating the trust of ethnic minorities in the Party and the State.

Venerable Ly Hung - Member of the Executive Council, Deputy Head of the Central Legal Affairs Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Deputy Head of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Can Tho City, Standing Deputy Head of the Association for Solidarity with Patriotic Sangha of Can Tho City said that the reality of the Southwest region shows that the socio-economic development level between ethnic groups is still uneven. The lives of a part of ethnic minorities, especially in remote and isolated areas, are still facing many difficulties, and need to continue to be concerned with synchronous and long-term policies.
In addition, the level of education in the Khmer community, although improved, is not really uniform. Investing in education and training of human resources, especially young ethnic minority cadres, is important in creating a foundation for socio-economic development and consolidating the political system at the grassroots level.
From the above reality, Venerable Ly Hung expressed his expectation that the 14th Party Congress will continue to affirm the view of creating conditions for ethnic minorities to participate more and more and of higher quality in the political system at all levels, towards achieving a proportion commensurate with the population structure. At the same time, it is necessary to pay attention to selecting and arranging cadres, civil servants, and public employees who are typical ethnic minorities and capable in key leadership and management positions.
Along with that, the Congress is expected to set out a specific mechanism for localities to proactively develop a roadmap for recruiting, planning, training and using the contingent of ethnic minority officials, suitable to the characteristics of each area. This is not only a solution to develop human resources but also contributes to consolidating the trust of the Khmer ethnic people, strengthening the great national unity bloc in the new development phase of the country.
