On the afternoon of August 18, in Hanoi, the Standing Committee of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Vietnam Journalists Association coordinated to organize a meeting of the Preliminary Council of the 17th "For the Cause of Great National Unity" Press Award, 2025-2026. Mr. Tran Thang, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chairman of the Preliminary Council chaired the meeting.
According to statistics, the 17th "For the Cause of Great National Unity" Press Award was launched to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day. After 2 years of implementation, as of July 31st, the Award recorded 2,767 valid entries from 5 press categories: print newspapers, electronic newspapers, radio, television and press photos from more than 100 press agencies across the country.

In which, the electronic journalism category accounted for the highest proportion, with 1,207 articles from 69 central and local press agencies sent to participate. The press photo category, although having the lowest number of entries, includes up to 831 photos belonging to photojournalism and single photos.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Tran Thang, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chairman of the Preliminary Examination Council, stated clearly: through 16 implementations, the Award has affirmed its prestige, stature and strong attraction to the team of journalists nationwide as well as the whole society. The Award is not only a recognition for journalists but also a lively forum honoring outstanding works that deeply reflect political, economic, and social life, especially the consolidation and promotion of the strength of the great national unity bloc.
To evaluate and select quality journalistic works that meet the criteria of the Award regulations for final judging and awarding, Vice Chairman Tran Thang requested the members of the Preliminary Examination Council to select quality works with elaborate, creative and innovative forms of expression, and outstanding impressions.
Along with that, the works need to clearly reflect the role and results of the activities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front at all levels, member organizations in propagating, encouraging, and mobilizing people from all walks of life to participate in building a clean and strong Party and State, social supervision and criticism work, creating consensus among the people; gathering and reflecting the opinions and aspirations of the people to the Party and State, especially intellectuals, religious dignitaries, representatives of ethnic groups, and overseas Vietnamese contributing to the great national unity bloc.
Affirming that the preliminary judging work is of utmost importance, is the basis and basis for the Final Judging Council to consider and select press works to request the Steering Committee and the Organizing Committee to decide on awarding prizes, Vice Chairman Tran Thang requested that each Preliminary Judging Sub-committee immediately start judging the Award; at the same time, the Sub-committees send the results to the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front before September 4, 2026 to summarize and make an official list of works selected for the Final Judging to ensure progress and quality.
In the spirit of impartiality, it is expected that the Preliminary Examination Council will select more than 30 print newspaper works, 40 electronic newspaper works, 20 television works, 15 radio works and 7 press photo works to deploy final judging.
