During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh always emphasized the role, mission, and strength of the spirit of national solidarity and great unity. Generations of Vietnamese leaders have always recorded his teachings, striving to contribute to connecting people at home and abroad, together creating resources to protect and build the Fatherland in the new era. The development as well as the contributions of the overseas Vietnamese community (NVNONN) in the 50-year journey of building and developing the country with outstanding marks are vivid evidence of the consistent and consistent great solidarity guidelines and policies of our Party and State.
Strengthening the great national unity bloc
To date, the NVNONN community has grown in number and expanded to the local area, with more than 6 million people in over 130 countries and territories, with legal status, economic conditions, role, position and prestige of the community in the host society being increasingly enhanced. Our people abroad are connected, united with each other and increasingly attached to their homeland.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang said that awareness of the role and importance of NVNONN in the great national unity bloc is increasingly enhanced. The directives of the Party and the Government emphasize the role, position and importance of overseas Vietnamese in the great national unity bloc; unify the affirmation of the spirit of "Vietnamese people abroad are an inseparable part and a resource of the Vietnamese ethnic community, an important factor contributing to strengthening cooperation and friendship between our country and other countries".
The Deputy Minister pointed out that recently, donation and humanitarian relief movements from overseas Vietnamese have become more methodical and large-scale. Every time a local locality in the country is affected by natural disasters, floods, epidemics, etc., the Korean community around the world responds, launches a donation campaign, sends tens of billions of VND and necessities back to the country. Another meaningful activity is the program "For beloved Truong Sa - For the Fatherland Front", which many overseas Vietnamese participated in. Tens of billions of VND have been donated to build cultural houses, schools, and infirmaries for officers, soldiers and people on the Truong Sa archipelago.
NVNONN associations were established, consolidated and developed, contributing to strengthening solidarity in the community, preserving and spreading cultural identity and national traditions, serving as a bridge of friendship between Vietnam and other countries, and at the same time playing a core role, organizing many activities towards the Fatherland.
Strategic bridge of the overseas Vietnamese business community
With trust and affection for their homeland, the NVNONN business community has made important economic contributions to the country. Right after the national reunification day, remittances from the NVNONN community have become an important resource to help families and relatives in the country overcome the difficulties of this period. Especially since the 1990s, when the renovation and integration policy was strongly implemented, the amount of bribes sent back to the country has increased steadily, contributing positively to socio-economic development.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien - Chairman of the State Committee on NVNONN - said that most NVNONN entrepreneurs are successful in countries with developed economies, experience in corporate governance, access to advanced technology and operation according to international standards. When returning to invest or cooperate with domestic enterprises, they not only bring new technologies, modern business models, international production standards... to help improve labor productivity, modernize production, improve the quality of domestic products and services, but also become strategic "bottlenecks" to bring Vietnam deeper into the global economic network, especially leading financial, scientific - technological centers such as the US, China, Europe, Japan, Korea...
To date, there are nearly 460 FDI projects of NVNONN in Vietnam, with a total registered capital of nearly 1.73 billion USD. In the 2021-2024 period alone, there were 59 investment projects with a total registered capital of 118.38 million USD, an increase of 21% in the number of projects and 75% in registered capital compared to the 2018-2020 period. In addition, there are also investment capital sources of overseas Vietnamese returning to the country in other indirect forms. NVNONN's investment and business activities have contributed to promoting the socio-economy, creating more jobs, and contributing to solving social security problems.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Kien said that in recent years, there has been a wave of overseas Vietnamese, especially young people born and raised abroad, with experience working at international companies, returning to invest and being quite successful domestically. Enterprises founded by overseas Vietnamese are typical such as RYNAN technologies Vietnam, The Lab Saigon, POPS Worldwide, Christinas, Wisepass, Phygital Labs, base.vn, Elsa, Logivan, Gotit, Uiza, WeFit, etc. is contributing to clearly shaping the domestic startup ecosystem. These models not only carry a modern mindset but also elevate Vietnamese brands in the international market.
Promoting people's diplomacy, building national brands and integrating internationally
With an extensive network of international relations, NVNONN entrepreneurs in particular and NVNONN in general have been and are an effective bridge between Vietnamese enterprises and global markets. They support trade promotion, connect on investment, markets, and introduce partners. Through associations and clubs of overseas entrepreneurs, they contribute to bringing Vietnamese products and brands to the international community, while bringing international standards to Vietnam, promoting the country's extensive economic integration process, thereby creating the image of an integrated, dynamic, friendly and rich Vietnam. These are invisible but sustainable values, contributing to strengthening the soft power of the country, supporting the State's diplomacy, and at the same time creating international trust and sympathy for Vietnam.
In the current period, people's diplomacy through our compatriots abroad continues to be strongly promoted. NVNONN associations regularly coordinate with our representative agencies abroad to organize "Vietnam Cultural Day", "Vietnamese Cuisine Week", "Vietnam Ao Dai Festival"... These activities not only maintain the love of the homeland in the young generation but also contribute to enhancing the position and image of Vietnam in the eyes of international friends. With its position, role and influence increasingly enhanced in the host society, NVNONN has become a bridge, a direct ambassador to promote Vietnamese culture, cuisine, tourism, the country and people around the world.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized that entering a new era, an era of national wealth and prosperity, Vietnamese people at home and abroad are all the connecting threads in the great national unity bloc. The strength of the nation comes not only from traditional values but also from the intelligence, creativity and aspiration to rise up of each Vietnamese person. It is patriotism, solidarity and responsibility of each of us that will be the decisive resources for Vietnam to break through, integrate, and develop prosperously and sustainably.
