Dien Bien - On the eve of the new school year, in addition to cleaning up schools, teachers in mountainous areas also have to wade in the rubble, helping people overcome the consequences of floods.

The heavy rain on the night of July 31 and early morning of August 1 caused flash floods and terrible landslides, causing heavy damage to people and property in many mountainous communes of Dien Bien province.

As of August 6, the whole province has had 10 deaths and 12 injuries; over 640 houses damaged, thousands of hectares of rice and crops were washed away and buried; many traffic routes, schools, medical facilities, public works..., estimated damage of over 700 billion VND.

In pain and loss, the spirit of "mutual love" spread even more strongly. Teachers, who were used to blackboard white powder, have now become volunteer "soldiers" on the front to help the people.

"The collective of teachers and people have relocated the severely affected houses, cleared mud and soil, and cleaned the houses for the people. Seeing the people lose, we cannot stand still.

Fortunately, schools in the center and village areas were not affected, but the road to the school was often eroded, making it extremely difficult to travel" - Ms. Diep added.

As one of the people who directly participated in paving the road, teacher Quang Thi Khanh (Phi Nhu Kindergarten) said: "It was really hard, the old road in the village was completely lost due to landslides. The teachers are tired but still smile on their lips".

Ms. Khanh also added that she had some hardship when receiving the attention and support of the police force, the army and charity groups to help.
