In many areas of ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Quang Tri province, women play an important role in family economic development but still face many limitations in capital, production techniques, and market access skills.
In order to solve these difficulties, Project 8 has implemented many activities to support women to change "thinking styles, ways of doing things", and enhance economic power.
According to the Women's Union (Women's Union) of Quang Tri province, one of the important contents of Project 8 is to build and replicate models to change "thinking styles and ways of doing things", enhance economic empowerment for women, promote gender equality and solve urgent issues for women and children.
In the process of implementation, the Provincial Women's Union has reviewed livelihood groups, cooperative groups, and cooperatives owned or co-owned by women to select suitable support models.
Some supported models include Tay Thach Han Ecological Agricultural Cooperative, Ta Rut dwarf banana cooperative group, Huc commune bamboo shoot processing cooperative group, and weaving cooperative group in Lao Bao town (old).
Support activities focus on applying science and technology in production, brand building, product identification design, and improving sales skills on e-commerce platforms.
The Provincial Women's Union has organized training classes on supporting the application of science and technology, sales skills, and market connection for union officials and members of livelihood models.
Through these activities, women in ethnic minority areas are not only supported in production techniques but also gradually change their economic thinking, from small-scale production to linkage and building valuable products.
In addition to supporting livelihoods, Project 8 also aims to allow women to participate more in local socio-economic activities.
Policy dialogues held in many communes and villages have created opportunities for women to express their needs for capital, jobs, vocational training, startup support and collective economic model development.
From a gender equality perspective, enhancing economic empowerment for women not only helps improve income but also contributes to enhancing the position of women in the family and community.
The Quang Tri Provincial Women's Union determined that, for gender equality to become a sustainable foundation, women need to be given the opportunity to access resources, to participate in deciding and being proactive in family economic development.
Livelihood models from Project 8 are opening up new directions, helping highland women gradually become more confident in labor production, promote local strengths and build a more stable life.
