On the morning of August 28, in Hanoi Capital, the 9th National Congress of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, term 2026-2031, solemnly opened.
Attending the Congress were 489 official delegates, representing the team of scientific and technological intellectuals and member organizations in the Vietnam Union of Associations system; guest delegates were leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), representatives of leaders of central committees, ministries, branches, VFF Party Committee, central mass organizations, VFF Central Committee...
With the theme "Solidarity - Creativity - Breakthrough - Development", the Congress conducted a summary and evaluation of the results of task implementation in the VIII term, and at the same time identified directions, goals and tasks for the 2026 - 2031 term, continuing to affirm the core role in gathering, uniting and promoting the potential and creativity of scientific and technological intellectuals.
Speaking to direct at the Congress, Ms. Bui Thi Minh Hoai - Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Fatherland Front, Central mass organizations, Chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front emphasized that, in its role as a mass organization assigned by the Party and State, in recent years, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations has well performed the tasks assigned by the Party and State.
Especially in the recent term VIII, despite many difficulties and challenges, under the close leadership and direction of the Party and State, the consensus and unified action of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and especially with the spirit of creative labor, dedication, and dedication, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations and the team of science and technology intellectuals nationwide have achieved quite comprehensive results, leaving a deep mark in many fields.
According to Ms. Bui Thi Minh Hoai, our country is entering a historical stage of development with the strategic goal that by 2030, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Party, our country will become a developing country with modern industry and high average income; realizing the vision that by 2045, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the country, our country will become a developed country with high income.
To achieve the two 100-year goals of the nation's rising era, Ms. Bui Thi Minh Hoai believes that we cannot follow the beaten path of a growth model based solely on natural resources or cheap labor.
The aspiration to rise up can only be realized through science and technology, innovation and national digital transformation. This is the decisive driving force and the most advanced production force that shapes the overall national strength in the new era" - Ms. Bui Thi Minh Hoai said.
In that new context, the responsibility of the system of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations - an organization representing the scientific voice of the country - is very heavy.
To realize the goals and targets set by the Congress, Ms. Bui Thi Minh Hoai requested the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations to focus on effectively implementing key task groups.
Accordingly, the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations needs to do better in its role as a political bridge, creating a free and creative environment for intellectuals; drastically implement digital transformation throughout the system, build a nationwide interconnected digital ecosystem; improve the quality and breakthrough of consulting, criticism and social appraisal activities.
In addition, it is necessary to promote applied research, transfer of science and technology, and narrow the gap between laboratory research and production practice and the market.
At the same time, strongly innovate the method of gathering young intellectuals and strengthen international cooperation, thereby positioning the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations not only as a domestic bridge but also as an intellectual bridge connecting Vietnam with leading scientific centers in the world.
Ms. Bui Thi Minh Hoai requested each scientist, each Vietnamese scientist and intellectual to continue to ignite the flame of passion for creativity, constantly study, research, dedicate themselves and contribute to a strong and prosperous Vietnam.
