Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. Bui Minh Thanh - City Party Committee Member, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee emphasized President Ho Chi Minh's teaching: "For the benefit of ten years of planting trees, for the benefit of a hundred years of cultivating people" still retains its era value today, especially in the context of large cities being increasingly seriously affected by climate change, environmental pollution and ecological space degradation.
For Ho Chi Minh City, developing green trees is no longer a purely mobilizing movement but has become a strategic task to improve the quality of life of people, improve the urban climate, reduce the heat island effect, and increase resilience to natural disasters and climate change" - Mr. Bui Minh Thanh said.
Looking back at the period 2021 - 2025, Ho Chi Minh City has completed and exceeded the targets in response to the Project to plant 1 billion trees launched by the Government, with more than 16 million newly planted trees in the city.

2026 is the year that marks the beginning of new development stages with greater requirements and aspirations. The city aims to continue expanding public green spaces, increasing the urban green tree cover rate by 1m2/person by 2030. At the same time, promoting the green transformation program, circular economy and towards the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
To make the Tet tree planting movement "Forever grateful to Uncle Ho" in 2026 truly go deeper and bring practical efficiency, the Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee proposed that Party committees at all levels and local authorities need to strictly manage the land fund for green trees, parks and ecological spaces that have been planned; not to let encroachment or misuse occur.

At the same time, continue to promote the socialization of green tree development; promote the role of the Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations, business communities and people in participating in planting, caring for, protecting green trees and building environmental landscapes. Each cadre, Party member, civil servant, union member, youth and each city resident becomes a "green ambassador".

Within the framework of the program, a signing ceremony was held to sign a memorandum of understanding on coordinating the implementation of accompanying activities between the City Farmers' Association, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Environment and coordinating units; introducing works in response to the "City of Colorful Flowers" movement in 2026; tree planting activities with more than 500 green trees such as giáng hương, bằng lăng.
