Joy multiplied by meaningful gifts
Chol Chnam Thmay Tet is an important traditional Tet of the Khmer people in the South, meaning ending the old year, welcoming the new year in a warm and harmonious atmosphere, towards good things. In the days leading up to Tet, the Khmer people of Vinh Long are supported with Tet gifts by levels, sectors and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, helping to welcome the new year more fully and joyfully.
Receiving a gift worth 500,000 VND to support welcoming the Chôl Chnăm Thmây Tet, many poor and near-poor households said that although the value is not large, it is very practical, helping families have more conditions to cover expenses during the New Year.
Ms. Thach Thi Hoa (Hung My commune), a near-poor household, said that she is old, in poor health, and no longer has land to produce, so her life mainly relies on hired work. Recently, illness has made her unable to work, and her income is almost gone.

Ms. Hoa shared that when the locality supported a Tet gift worth 500,000 VND, the family was very excited and touched. "Due to difficult circumstances, this gift is very meaningful, helping my husband and I have more conditions to prepare for Tet, and also a great encouragement from the government," Ms. Hoa said.
Mr. Thach Sung (66 years old, Phuoc Hao commune) lives alone, mainly collecting scrap metal, working as a hired laborer, and collecting rice to earn a living every day. However, due to old age and weakness, making a living is increasingly difficult, income is unstable, and life is precarious.
Mr. Sung said that for many years he has always received attention from local authorities, especially on holidays and Tet. When she received a gift worth 500,000 VND, she was very touched.
Giving free medical examination and medicine gifts to Khmer people

In order to care for the Chôl Chnăm Thmây Tet, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province has used the Fund for the Poor and mobilized socialization, giving nearly 5,000 gifts, each worth 500,000 VND, to poor, near-poor and difficult households, with a total budget of nearly 2.5 billion VND.
From April 7 - 13, working delegations of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province visited many localities with a large Khmer population to visit, give gifts, and encourage people to strive to rise up and celebrate the Chol Chnam Thmay Tet joyfully, safely, and economically.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Nhung - Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee said that this is the first time Khmer people have celebrated Tet after the merger of the province, showing better care and effective implementation of ethnic policies.
We hope that through Tet care activities, we will contribute to encouraging the spirit, helping people feel secure in working and producing, gradually improving their lives and promoting the great national unity bloc," Ms. Nhung added.
The Department of Health also organizes medical examinations, treatment, and free medicine distribution for people in many localities such as Tra Con, Binh Phu, Don Chau, Nhi Truong, Cau Ke, Ham Giang, contributing to community health care and ensuring social security.
