Accordingly, in recent times, Bac Ninh province has directed departments, branches and localities to seriously implement groups of solutions and tasks on handling environmental pollution, at the same time, actively propagate to raise awareness of environmental protection in the province in general and environmental protection of the Bac Hung Hai irrigation system in particular.
However, the environmental quality of the Bac Hung Hai irrigation system is still very polluted because the domestic wastewater of households around the area, some companies, production facilities, and small-scale business households discharges wastewater directly into the environment without treatment.
On the other hand, Bac Ninh province is located at the end of the source of the Bac Hung Hai irrigation system.
Therefore, to prevent and day lu the environmental pollution of the Bac Hung Hai irrigation system, the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province recommends that the People's Committee of Hung Yen province direct departments, branches and localities to continue to strengthen propaganda work, mobilize people to raise awareness of environmental protection; closely coordinate with mass media agencies and social organizations to make propaganda work increasingly effective.
Strengthen inspection, examination, and strict handling according to regulations for individuals and organizations that arbitrarily dump untreated waste into the Bac Hung Hai irrigation works system, affecting water resources.
At the same time, businesses are required to invest in wastewater treatment works to ensure current standards before discharging waste into the irrigation works system; resolutely suspend the operation of facilities that do not meet the conditions prescribed by law and have come into operation.
In addition, speed up the implementation of investment projects to build centralized wastewater treatment systems of localities to treat domestic wastewater, craft villages, and industrial clusters to gradually handle environmental pollution of the Bac Hung Hai irrigation system and river branches flowing in.
Review the current status of investment, installation and operation of all environmental monitoring stations installed in the area according to the requirements of the Department of Environment - Ministry of Agriculture and Environment; strengthen measures to manage and operate environmental monitoring stations to meet the requirements according to regulations.
The Bac Hung Hai irrigation system was built in 1958, including rivers, dams over 230 km long, pumping stations, and dykes to serve irrigation and drainage for four provinces and cities: Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen and Hai Duong.
At the time of construction, this was the largest irrigation project in the North with hundreds of large and small canals leading water from the Red River and Thai Binh to irrigate most of the Northern Delta.
