Da Nang increases beach cleaning force

Da Nang - Many beaches in Da Nang are full of cans, plastic bottles, and torn nets, causing loss of urban beauty and environmental pollution.

Coastal pollution after storms

According to local residents, heavy rains during the recent storm have caused garbage to wash up on the beach, creating long, messy lines. "Since early morning, many sanitation workers have been mobilized to clean up, but the amount of garbage is so large that it has not been finished yet," said a local resident.

Mr. Nguyen Dung, a resident of Hoa My 2 residential area, Hoa Minh ward, Lien Chieu district, Da Nang city, reported: "After each storm, on the beaches of Da Nang, there is a situation of plastic waste, duckweed, torn nets... floating from upstream to the Han River. Part of the waste is salvaged by Da Nang Urban Environment Joint Stock Company, part of it flows out to sea and is washed ashore by waves, causing pollution and losing the urban beauty. This is a situation that occurs regularly every year."

Mr. Charles Thompson, an American tourist, said that Da Nang's coastline has rare white sand and clear blue water, but along some beaches in the Nguyen Tat Thanh area, there is a lot of trash.

Currently, along My Khe beach (Ngu Hanh Son district), there are still many blocks of garbage and dry branches that have not been cleaned up, stretching along My Khe beach. Therefore, many people have expressed their desire to petition relevant authorities and departments to send forces to check and clean the beach daily or periodically.

Increase forces to clean up the coast

Due to the impact of heavy rain from November 4 to November 5 in Da Nang city, a large amount of garbage drifted onto two coastal routes (along Nguyen Tat Thanh Street and Vo Nguyen Giap Street). The Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches has requested the Da Nang Urban Environment Joint Stock Company (the unit assigned to collect and process garbage at the beach) to increase its workforce and means of handling to ensure environmental sanitation at the beach.

According to the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches, due to the large amount of garbage on the two coastal routes, the Company has not been able to handle it in time. At My Khe beach, the Management Board has requested the Da Nang Urban Environment Joint Stock Company to increase the number of workers and vehicles to promptly handle and collect garbage in the above area.

At the 6th People's Council meeting with voters on November 1, Mr. Pham Nam Son, Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Da Nang City, said that in the prevention plans before, during and after the storm, the People's Committee of Da Nang City assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to collect garbage after the storm. This includes the task of collecting garbage at seaports and river mouths after the storm. The People's Committee of Da Nang City has also allocated funds to order the Da Nang Urban Environment Joint Stock Company to completely handle this situation.
