On the morning of January 2, 2025, the rescue force, the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and tourist beaches, and the Management Board of Investment Projects for Construction of Agricultural Works and Rural Development in Da Nang mobilized more than 200 people to urgently build a temporary embankment with sandbags, preventing the waves from continuing to destroy the coast of My Khe, Phuoc My ward, Son Tra district.
The working groups focused on building gabions, by filling sand bags with sand, then placing them on 1.5m x 2m wire mesh and stacking them on top of each other. This measure is intended to create a temporary barrier, preventing further waves from destroying My Khe beach. The work started at 7am, but was hampered by high tides in the afternoon, so the team tried to concentrate more in the morning when the water was low.
The landslide occurred along a length of about 500m at the beaches of Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts, of which the My Khe beach section of more than 100m long was the most severely affected. Da Nang city leaders have directed the immediate implementation of temporary response measures, while considering the option of building a long-term concrete embankment to protect the coast. Currently, construction units are working hard to complete the 3-layer earthen cage, ensuring solid connections.
