Proposal to dredge and clear the gate of La Gi Seaport after many sunken fishing vessels

Lam Dong - Many fishing boats that sank while entering and exiting the port of La Gi were flooded, the locality recommended dredging and clearing the channel soon to ensure fishermen's safety.

On November 13, speaking with reporters, Mr. Huynh Thanh Quoc Viet - Chairman of the People's Committee of Phuoc Hoi Ward (Lam Dong Province) said that he had sent a document to the Provincial People's Committee proposing to soon continue implementing the dredging and clearing project at the estuary of La Gi Fishing Port.

For about the past 2 years, the port gate area of La Gi has been continuously sunk by fishing vessels due to silting. This situation has caused the channel to narrow, the depth is no longer safe for large-capacity ships.

Most recently, on November 8, two fishing boats sank. By November 11, 2 more fishing boats had sunk. According to the People's Committee of Phuoc Hoi Ward, in addition to the reason for the island's gate being flooded, there are also causes of heavy rain, big waves and water flowing in from the upstream of the Dinh River.

These incidents not only caused property damage but also made fishermen worried and afraid to go to sea because of the risk of unsafety when entering and leaving the estuary.

According to the investigation, in mid-June 2025, a unit brought barges to the seawall area and installed pipes to suck sand, dredging to clear the channel, but only a few days later, it was temporarily suspended until now.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Quoc Viet - Chairman of Phuoc Hoi Ward People's Committee said that after the fishing boats sank at the estuary of La Gi Port, the locality sent a delegation to visit and encourage the boat owners. At the same time, support and guide the steps to salvage the damaged vehicle to minimize property damage.

Regarding the proposal, Phuoc Hoi Ward People's Committee reported to Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee to consider and direct the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Provincial Fishing Port Management Board to promptly continue implementing the project of dredging the Dinh River channel and maintaining the channel at the estuary of La Gi Port.

"Dredging the channel is necessary to ensure the safety of fishermen's lives and property in exploitation and fishing activities, stabilizing people's lives" - Mr. Viet emphasized.

The sea gate being filled not only affects fishermen in Phuoc Hoi ward but many fishermen in La Gi ward also have fishing boats entering and leaving this port gate.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of La Gi Ward also recommended that the Provincial People's Committee pay attention to and consider directing agencies to promptly implement the La Gi Port Seaport Drainage Project.

According to records, the area of filling at La Gi port extends from the area at the head of the dike to prevent sand, reduce waves to the outer side of the estuary, especially the area at the entrance between the two ends of the dike.

Previously, the authorities had a dredging and flowing project and had to prepare documents and related procedures in accordance with regulations.
