In the afternoon of August 9th, thunderstorms are developing strongly in many areas of Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh and Dong Thap, causing widespread rain. Some places are likely to experience heavy rain over 30mm in 3 hours, with the risk of localized flooding in low-lying areas.
According to records at 5 pm, thunderstorms continued to develop and move in the Southwest direction to neighboring areas. Some roads such as Pham Van Chieu, Phan Huy Ich were slightly flooded due to rising water, and roads such as Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Ky Dong, Quoc Huong, Thao Dien also experienced heavy rain, making it difficult for people to move.


In Ho Chi Minh City, thunderstorms are operating in the areas of Nhuan Duc, Cu Chi, Binh Gia, Xuan Son, Hoa Hoi, Ngai Giao communes and Binh Duong ward. In which, radar response in some areas reaches 35-37.5 dBZ.
Notably, the northern areas of Ho Chi Minh City are likely to continue to experience rain in the coming hours. Rain may spread down to Go Vap, Binh Chanh, old Hoc Mon, then expand to Tan Binh, old Binh Tan and surrounding areas.
In Tay Ninh, thunderstorms developed strongly in many communes such as Nhon Ninh, Tan Thanh, Nhon Hoa Lap, Thanh Hoa, Tan Tay, Hau Thanh, Thanh Phuoc, Tan Long, Tuyen Thanh, Binh Thanh, Moc Hoa, Vinh Chau and Duc Hue.
Some areas recorded very high radar response, such as Tan Tay 53.5 dBZ, Tan Long 55 dBZ, Binh Thanh 55.5 dBZ and Duc Hue up to 57.5 dBZ, showing that the thunderstorm area is actively operating.
The meteorological agency warns that in the coming hours, thunderstorms may continue to expand and cause moderate rain, with heavy rain in some places. Rainfall is likely to exceed 30mm in the next 3 hours, increasing the risk of localized flooding on roads, low-lying areas and places with overloaded drainage systems.
In thunderstorms, people need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. People in areas at risk of flooding should proactively monitor weather developments, limit moving through deeply flooded roads and ensure safety when there are thunderstorms and lightning.
