Plastic products have durable, convenient and cheap properties, bringing many conveniences to daily life. However, the increasing amount of plastic waste has seriously affected the environment, causing pollution of soil, water, air, etc.
According to UNEP's report, the world produces about 430 million tons of plastic each year, of which more than two-thirds are single-use products, quickly becoming waste, polluting the ocean, seriously affecting the ecosystem and human health. In Vietnam, it is estimated that about 1.8 million tons of plastic waste are generated each year, but only about 27% is recycled; the majority of the rest is buried or burned, causing waste of resources and posing many potential environmental risks.
Since 2019, the anti-waste movement has been launched nationwide with great expectations. In Decision No. 1746/QD-TTg dated December 4, 2019 on the National Action Plan on Ocean Waste Management to 2030, it was clearly stated that the goal is to reduce the amount of plastic waste by 50% by 2025 and by 2030 by 75%.
Many localities, agencies, units, educational institutions... across the country have issued many regulations, strategies, slogans, and movements to strengthen management and supervision to reduce plastic waste. However, policies still face many difficulties and barriers when applied to life.

World Environment Day June 5, 2025, launched by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) with the theme "Beat Plastic Pollution", aims to call on the global community to take drastic action to address plastic waste - one of the most urgent environmental challenges today.
This is the second time in three years (2023-2025) that this theme has been selected, clearly demonstrating the global priority in controlling plastic pollution, while reaffirming the commitment to using resources effectively, protecting biodiversity, improving adaptability, promoting innovation and enhancing regional - global cooperation, towards a circular economy and sustainable development.
With the above spirit, Lao Dong Newspaper chaired a seminar on "S struggling to reduce plastic pollution after 6 years of launching the anti-lastic waste movement" with the hope of receiving many constructive opinions and views from experts and managers on the issue of reducing plastic waste pollution in Vietnam.
At the seminar, experts and managers in the environmental field will look back and evaluate the practical effectiveness of environmental movements and campaigns that have been launched since 2019. At the same time, discuss policies and solutions to help Vietnam escape the increasingly serious spiral of plastic waste pollution.
We respectfully invite readers to follow.
