Known as a 15-storey slope, Khau Coc Cha Pass is located on National Highway 4A connecting Xuan Truong Commune to the center of Bao Lac Border District.
Khau Coc Cha Pass is up to 2.5km long, with 15 floors of consecutive sharp turns, challenging but equally attractive to backpackers.
According to local people, Khau Coc Cha was originally a trail less than half a meter wide, dating back to the French colonial period. At that time, this was a path for groups of horses carrying goods, many sections of the road were so narrow that there was not enough space for two people going in opposite directions.

In 2011, the new pass was expanded with a 5m wide road surface, creating an official pass route to connect remote villages of the northern "fence" land.
Khau Coc Cha is where adventurous drivers can feel the most clearly the harmony between the beauty of nature and the harshness of the road. With each winding road along the mountainside, continuous turns and deep canyons below, Khau Coc Cha requires drivers to have a steady hand and pay attention to every step of movement.

Many backpackers share that, on the pass, the feeling of excitement and a strong heartbeat each beat is like a challenge for themselves.
Even if you do not directly experience crossing Khau Coc Cha Pass, visitors can still climb mountains through forests to reach the top of Pac Thoc - the side opposite the pass to fully admire nature and the quick curves.
Khau Coc Cha is a destination that those who love to explore the mountain pass cannot miss. This is also a journey to reach one's limits, immersed in the majestic natural scenery of Cao Bang.
Taking advantage of this, Bao Lac District has planned and built a sightseeing spot at the 15-storey Khau Coc Cha Pass area with a total investment of about 1.6 billion VND.

This construction is part of the Tourism Service Development Program for the period 2021 - 2025, Bao Lac district coordinated with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to implement a project under the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas, period 2021 - 2025.
On March 12, through actual observation, the area to go to the sightseeing and check-in spot is being built along the trail to the top of Pac Thoc mountain.
However, recently, some tourists have complained about the situation of too much plastic waste appearing on the roads as well as on the top of Pac Thoc mountain - the opposite point, seeing the entire Khau Coc Cha pass.
Nguyen Ha Trang (Hanoi) - shared: "My friend and I climbed the mountain here to fully admire Khau Coc Cha Pass, but why are there so many plastic bottles and plastic bags here? There are only a few tourists coming down with plastic bottles, most of them throw them here".

According to the people, people sometimes gather garbage and burn it, but there is no other solution. Informing reporters, Ms. Mong Thi Hieu - Vice Chairman of Xuan Truong Commune People's Committee - said: "The commune has also established a management board to handle the cleaning of the road area to the sightseeing site, but it has not been officially put into operation, so the results are not high".
"Some trash bins have been arranged by the locality along the road so that tourists and residents can put plastic bottles in them, but some people still throw garbage everywhere, creating a shabby scene. In the coming time, the locality will arrange people to handle this situation" - Ms. Hieu added.
