On the morning of January 14, Dak Song Commune Police (Lam Dong province) said that the unit had just coordinated with Nam Nung Forest Protection Department to receive and re-release a black-cheeked monkey individual voluntarily handed over by people.
This rare gibbon was brought by Ms. Dang Thi Huong's family (Rung Lanh village, Dak Song commune) to hand over to functional agencies. Previously, while working in the fields, Ms. Huong's family discovered a gibbon lost in a coffee garden, so they caught it and kept it in captivity.
After realizing that raising and storing wild animals was a violation of the law, Ms. Huong proactively contacted Dak Song Commune Police to hand over the gibbon individual.
According to Nam Nung Forest Protection Department, the wild animal individual handed over is a black-cheeked gibbon (scientific name Nomascus gabriellae), belonging to the list of endangered, precious, and rare species prioritized for protection.
This species is seriously threatened due to habitat loss and illegal hunting, playing an important role in maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity conservation.
Ms. Dang Thi Huong's voluntary handover of rare and precious wildlife shows awareness of law compliance, contributing to protecting nature and local ecosystems.
The police agency recommends that people do not hunt, raise, buy, sell, or transport wild animals illegally; when detecting or keeping wild animals, they should proactively contact functional agencies to be received and handled in accordance with legal regulations.
