Garbage dumps spring up at dawn
Da Nang has steadfastly built the "Environmental City" for more than 10 years, but currently on many streets, the easily seen image is piles of domestic waste and construction rubble lying on sidewalks and vacant lots; stench rising, garbage spilling onto the road, overloaded collection vehicles.
A painful paradox: garbage does not "generate itself", but "spontaneous garbage points" still flaunt every day.

Recorded on crowded routes such as Ton That Dam, Tran Cao Van... piles of broken bricks, concrete, nylon bags, styrofoam boxes, old clothes are mixed together. What makes people angry is not only the urban unsightliness, but also the feeling of helplessness when garbage is "filled" in a regular and lawful manner.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (character name has been changed, residing in Thanh Khe ward) reflected that in front of Thuan An 2 residential area on Ton That Dam street, a large pile of garbage appeared about 3-4 months ago and is piling up higher and higher, with a strong stench. According to her, every 3-4 am, someone secretly carries household garbage, even trash cans, to dump right in the middle of the walkway. "I once spoke up to remind them and was warned and threatened. The wind blows and the smell blows into the house, I can't stand it," she said.
According to people, 3-4 am is a deserted road time, the force is thin, cameras (if any) are easily avoided, and no one is strong enough to face them. Therefore, trash piles up overnight.

In Cam Le ward, vacant landfills are filled with rubble and domestic waste spilling onto sidewalks and roads. When vacant land turns into "free storage", the consequence is that the entire surrounding area has to "pay" with air pollution, mosquitoes, disease risks and urban image degradation.
Nearly 300 tons of garbage dumped illegally in just a few days
Recently, after many days of ambush, the Environmental Violation Handling Inspection Team of Son Tra ward continuously discovered many cases of illegal illegal waste dumping. Typical examples include the case of catching a truck illegally dumping construction waste at the foot of Thuan Phuoc bridge - a central environmental hotspot in Da Nang and a man driving a motorbike with license plate 75-E1 418.XX throwing an old mattress on the sidewalk of Hoang Sa street.

Son Tra Ward People's Committee said that at the end of 2025, the ward will clean up spontaneous garbage points, with a collection volume of nearly 290-300 tons in just a few days. This figure both shows the efforts of grassroots forces and people, and exposes a worrying reality: if there were no continuous illegal dumping of garbage, it would not be possible to "consume" hundreds of tons in such a short time.
According to Mr. Dinh Vui, Chairman of Son Tra Ward People's Committee, the situation of dumping garbage not in accordance with regulations has a significant impact on the efforts to build a civilized, green - clean - beautiful urban area of the ward in particular and Da Nang City in general.
Although functional agencies continuously propagate and apply sanctions, this situation still occurs, causing environmental pollution and damaging urban aesthetics.

Mr. Dang Hai Nam - Deputy Head of the Planning and Investment Department of Da Nang Urban Environment Joint Stock Company said that the demand for dumping waste in addition to domestic waste in urban areas is very large, while people lack awareness, many transportation units also do not dump it on the landfill for gathering but dump it illegally. In areas such as Son Tra, Thanh Khe, Hoa Xuan, Ngu Hanh Son, there are many neighborhoods with sparse houses and deserted roads, the locality has established a working group to regularly ambush and prevent, which is very difficult and costly for the state budget to clean up when pollution points arise.
