Quang Tri aims to develop a green economy, not trade-off the marine environment

Quang Tri - Owning 75km of coastline, Quang Tri aims to develop a green economy without trading the marine environment.

On the morning of June 2, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province held a rally in response to the Environmental Action Month, World Environment Day (June 5) with the theme "Anti-polluting plastic" and World Ocean Day (June 8) with the message "Muringal October: Preserving the life of humanity".

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Hoang Nam, Acting Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, emphasized the need to change awareness, unify actions, develop the economy but not exchange the marine environment.

Mr. Nam said that with 75km of coastline, Quang Tri has many advantages in developing the marine economy and eco-tourism. However, the province is also being severely affected by climate change, rising sea levels and the widespread plastic waste situation.

In recent years, Quang Tri has implemented many solutions such as building a green tourism agricultural model, planting mangrove forests, launching a "no to single-use plastic" movement and increasing the coastal waste collection rate.

However, the leader of the Provincial People's Committee said that the challenge is still huge because public awareness is not uniform, waste treatment technology is still limited, and uncontrolled discharge still occurs in many places.

The Provincial People's Committee calls on the whole society, from agencies, businesses, organizations to each citizen to take action for the environment, step up propaganda, clean the sea, classify waste, use environmentally friendly products, spread green initiatives and promote the role of young people, women, and coastal communities.

At the rally, the organizing committee presented the national flag to fishermen at sea and presented trash bins to households in difficult circumstances.
